Q Tip is having a good comeback with his latest cd, its probably one of the best hip hop cds in sometime to come!
Q Tip is well respected in the hip hop community, a legend in his own right and him pairing with PRINCE is a wonderful thing. I've always loved Q's voice and Prince I'm sure loves it too. The two making a video, will cause a stir, because no one wouldve thought of it happening. So CHOCOLATE BOX is gonna make some noise, Prince doesn't want over commercialization of his music anyways and just to get a buzz and some radio play to let folx know he's got new stuff on the market, this is a great way of doing so, plus making some funky/hip hoppy joints like this, just add to the interest of PRINCE by young folk all over the globe. Black Sweat was an internet and video sensation, it may not had cracked the top 10 or been the best dance song of that year in the club, but it definitely had its presence. I'm a dj and a young one at that! Most DJ's played the song at club *(that i know) in detroit, plus alot of kids that knew I dug prince, asked me about it!!! I played it many of nights for the past few years...it seems to still creep out of my speakers at my most successful gigs and ppl stay on the dance floor! So Prince is making a good move to maintain his stay on the urban and top 40 charts by including collaboritive efforts with some other hot or known artist. This keeps the interest, why would he go get Lil wayne whose so over-rated and ppl are tired of his crap output by now. So why not get Q Tip WHO JUST RELEASED HIS MOST CRITICAL ACCLAIMED PROJECT EVER and thou it didn't sell a Million its first week, it still caught the attention of the music buying public b/t the ages of 14 & 30! Kids like a good beat and simple lyrics these days and I don't know how many kids I play for b/t 18 & 30, come up to me requesting "Getting Up" and "MOVE" by mr. tip and you best to believe when I get my hands on Chocolate Box, I will be playing the hell out of it!!! Til ppl start requesting it!

- I really hope there is a big space between the two album releases. "Lotus Flow3r" seems to be totally different from ´MPLS´, and more ´artsy´. It´s probably like comparing TRC to High album. I would like to see ´Lotus´ with a good promotion. Not to be a hit for teens, but to reach a more mature audience. [Edited 2/5/09 7:48am]

They need some time to breathe, autonomous of each other. That being said, I was hoping - with all the Lotusflow3r art and whatnot hitting us, that we'd be getting that album sooner rather than later. Also, personally, I think that with the small mount of hype he's built, to release MPLSound would be a mistake. People will hear it and yawn, unless there are magically amazing tracks we haven't heard yet (and this is possible), but if Chocolate Box is the first single, then the concern holds true that he'll blow it. Lotusflow3r is the better release first - because it brings back something about Prince that MOST people can agree with: He's an amazing guitarist. I don't expect MPLSound to make any impact at all. Whether it's first, second, or third. I think the sounds are too dated. I honestly have more apprehension about MPLSound than excitement at this point. The exact opposite for Lotusflow3r. I could give two craps about Bria's protege junk. I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.

Lotus seems to have great guitar playing, very good production and good songs (at least I liked the 4 new songs that played on radio). I think anyone can enjoy ´Colonized Mind´, for example. MPLS seems to be for the fans only. Something that Prince made for fun. While Lotus seems more of an artistic statement.

I wouldn't call it a smash hit, but more people were into it than usual. I don't think Prince could ever have a "hit" song no matter what he did - radio is dead, music video channels don't play videos... basically the music industry is dead. In that case, you really can't fault him for not having #1 hits. But shit, he did have a #1 album, 3121. Not bad in an industry that is deader than dead and shitter than shit. I'm not excited about a video with "Q-Tip." I wouldn't say that guy is a real artist or relevant in any way. Prince should work on music with real musicians instead... people at least up to his level. Then again I hate hip hop, rap, and non musicians. [Edited 2/4/09 19:27pm] If im not mistaken the Black Sweat video on Youtube was put there by Universal so prince didnt take it down it just served its promotional purpose Hypocrisy at it's lowest! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

My initial comment was fixed upon whether or not the song was any sort of hit, which, 'lots of people knowing it' or not, it most certainly wasn't. It was another in a long string of Prince songs that flopped like a bloated grouper, eyes bulging and washed up on a medically polluted shore, gasping for air. There were a lot of videos on YouTube that had young people signing that song (Black Sweat). Unfortunately, Prince got them taken down. You've sure got some nerve talking shit about Q-tip. He is a musician actually. He learned piano from jazz great Weldon Irvine. Have you ever even heard anything by Q-tip? His album Renaissance released last November was in my and many others opinion, the best of 2008. It was a very musical affair with the majority of instruments by Q-tip, so whatever lspear76. If you don't have nothing good to say than don't say nothing at all! [Edited 2/7/09 21:34pm] Release Yourself

At least he has imagination and from what i can tell, a fair bit of musicality. I'm not surprised P is down with him.
