Q-Tip & Prince

Apologies if you all already know this, but just got this 'tweet' from Q-Tip on Twitter:

QtipTheAbstract: About to shoot a video with prince.

Exciting? I thought so...

I think its pathetic how many of you are never satisfied.
"Chocolate Box" sounds great from the snippet and "Black Sweat" was far from boring, it was a hit video on MTV,VH1, & BET that year.

Maybe if it had rock guitar added and renamed VANILLA BOX, ya'll dig it!
And yes, you may read between the lines!

I can't wait!

Oh please. As if there's latent racism going on with opinions regarding the teenage bump and grind of Chocolate Box.

Maybe if Prince didn't record a song with a groove and lyrics that would make Brooke Hogan second guess whether or not to record it as it might be too passe' at this point more people would find it interesting or worth anticipating.

And Black Sweat was hardly a hit. It was another clunker that went nowhere on the charts. Good luck finding anyone outside a Prince fan that even knows about the song's existence. Some hit.
No hard feelings.

- The video was cool, but it wasnt a strong song, IMO. The chorus is too similar to ´The Work pt1´, and there is nothing real great when it comes to melody, groove, etc.

The live version was more exciting.

I actually know alot of people who aren't really into Prince who love that song. It may not have been a hit, but I think it's classic Prince and I wish he'd stay in that direction.

I'm guessing those people suffered through your playings of the song but regardless, while I wouldn't qualify it as 'classic' Prince it was at least bearable which is more than you can say for most of his recent music. My initial comment was fixed upon whether or not the song was any sort of hit, which, 'lots of people knowing it' or not, it most certainly wasn't. It was another in a long string of Prince songs that flopped like a bloated grouper, eyes bulging and washed up on a medically polluted shore, gasping for air.
No hard feelings.

There were a lot of videos on YouTube that had young people signing that song (Black Sweat). Unfortunately, Prince got them taken down. I wouldn't call it a smash hit, but more people were into it than usual. I don't think Prince could ever have a "hit" song no matter what he did - radio is dead, music video channels don't play videos... basically the music industry is dead. In that case, you really can't fault him for not having #1 hits. But shit, he did have a #1 album, 3121. Not bad in an industry that is deader than dead and shitter than shit. I'm not excited about a video with "Q-Tip." I wouldn't say that guy is a real artist or relevant in any way. Prince should work on music with real musicians instead... people at least up to his level. Then again I hate hip hop, rap, and non musicians.

you kind of discrediteded your own argument by saying the music industry is shit and dead and that 3121 made number 1. so does that meant that 3121 is shit and dead?

basically, and I dont mind 3121, the chart success rode off the coattails of black sweat's heavy video rotation and a couple of famous live performances and awards that year - and thats the way to do it (get to number 1). but if you are saying that music is shit you are basically saying that 3121 represents the culmination of shit thats out there.

Dude, Black Sweat is >>>>> Chocolate Box

Seriously. Black Sweat is a badass song. Again, the things you guys don't realize as fans. People LIKE Black Sweat. They think it was an awesome direction for him. Many NON-FANS I know really do like that song. Think it sounded fresh, which is something we can't say for what we've heard from MPLSound.

The bigger thing is this:

IF the video is Chocolate Box, then that means MPLSound will the album that comes out first. Not Lotusflow3r, no?
I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.
