Eric Clapton made a pointed reference to Prince in a 1984/1985 Rolling Stone interview. He commented on the hot artists of the day, then said something like, "There's one guy I want to mention, and that's Prince. He's doing things with rock 'n' roll that are truly revolutionary."

John Fogerty pumped Prince, too, at about the same time. Fogerty had taken several years off, then put out "Centerfield", in which he played all the instruments. He said something good about Prince, although I don't remember exactly what.

Jack Nicholson thought Prince was so good that he insisted Prince do the soundtrack for "Batman".

John Mellencamp gave kudos to Prince back in the "Purple Rain" timeframe. So did Bruce Springsteen.

How about on 'Interactive'. He said something to the end of "He's one of those artists, where you either love him or you hate him"

and let's not forget Miles Davis' prolific quote:

"He is... j... just... ahhh... ahhkd... gurrgle gurgle mumble"

On that tip, i remember Mellencamp saying he thought 'Little Red Corvette' was great and i think he's played it in concert himself.

Whitney Houston-He is a Prince,,period-92

I remember Robert Plant complimenting Prince for his sexual exuberance. I forgot the exact words, though. Oh well...

Eric Clapton, on a VH1 special, once said Prince just sets the standards and you have to sit back and watch him. Or something to that effect.

It's not ALL good, is it?

In "Days of Wild", Per Nelson says that Madonna called Prince "stupid" when he presented the idea of Graffiti Bridge to her. But look who was talking.

yeah, apparently madonna likes to rag on Prince. I read a magzine back when Like a Prayer was out nd they had gone out a few times but he didn't sleep with her. She told the reporter that she felt like she was "off to see The Wizard"! rude, but kinda funny.

Jimmy Jam on Prince (somewhat paraphrased):

"When we were coming up, if you played piano, you had to be able to play something like "Bennie and the Jets" to be considered good. For a guitar player, it was the solo in "Make Me Smile" by Chicago. Prince could play that solo note for note, so to me, he was the baddest MF around."

George Clinton:

"He's a positive nuisance. You hear something and say "Ah shit, what is this?" then you find out it's Prince and it's okay, it's accepted, he is that positive nuisance."

Madonna used to talk mess about EVERYBODY back then,it was part of her bad girl persona...lol...I remember where she criticized his music videos, saying they were "cheap and dumb".In 1985,when she went backstage to see Prince after his concert, she whispered to her assistant "Time to go see the midget".Being rude and outspoken was all part of her image.

Yeah, on the subject of Madonna & putting shit on Prince, how could one forget her statement to the press that said her label Maverick records was like "Paisley Park Records, only more successful".

There's a ton of artists out there who have great, positive quotes on the man, too many for me to mention (and yet the brother still gets no mainstream props)???

The Howard Stern Radio Show was at the 1999 MTV Awards in which Prince attended. Howard said Prince was "walking around all mad. He walks around like he's still got the hits but he doesn't", Howard's sidekick Robin added, (he gives you the feeling) "don't look at me, don't talk to me. I think he's mad because he lost his talent", Howard then replies, "you think?" On a different ocassion when B-real of the rap group Cypress Hill was on the show they talked about Prince and Carmen Elektra. B-real said Carmen may prefer "dating black guys" Robin adds "Prince is hardly black...Prince is hardly a guy!" Howard is a fan of Prince's early work (Purple Rain) but has since called him "TheArtistPeopleFormallyCaredAbout" Not nice comments to report but that is what I heard.

I think it's very funny (all mad no hits, hardly black hardly a guy). Prince has always been just a little bit 2 much in love with himself, his music, everything: he's an extremely narcistic little man, people tend to make jokes about that, great i love these jokes, i really do. Keep things in perspective will ya wink
