Getting back to the thread topic...
I wouldn't describe TRC song as the "best" song he's done, but it certainly is a great opening to a great album. Nice to hear the freshness of it. I love the last few minutes, which is a clear homage to Miles Davis's "In A Silent Way" album, and a great segue into "Muse 2 The Pharoh" - another masterpiece. Twenty reasons why it's a GREAT track, regardless of where it ranks:
1. Blackwell's eighth notes on the tom toms interspersed with crisp rim shots... 2. The 3:31 mark when Prince kicks in the distortion pedal on the guitar the first time... 3. From the very first note - the thickness and tone of the Rhodes... 4. THE GROOVE... 5. The guitar playing... 6. The cartoon-ish (is that Camille?) voice that shadows Prince's vocals once the lyrics "Who is your real father?" kick in... 7. The incorporation of the Controversy era lyrics "Reproduction of a new breed leader, stand up, organize!"... 8. How Prince alternates vocal harmony and behind the beat vocals with the Camille-like voice..."The Agreement/with every birth/we keep it so/never changing one piece of it..." 9. The choir's vocal crescendo up to its apex... 10. The organ becoming more pronounced until the beginning of the coda... 11. The Coda

And there was I thinking I was the only one! Dunno if I think it is his best song ever, but right from first listen it was my fave on the album. Everyone seemed to be so caught up with the last 3 tracks along with 1+1+1=3, but TRC just stormed through my head and single handedly reafirmed my faith in the little man(I'd kinda been hanging out for a good tune for 10 yrs or so). | |

Yup, I wouldn't say the very best. Surely Top 5 (in my opinion).
The song is pure musical genius, the guitar solo at the end that Segues to M2TP, is probably my favorite part of the album. Also The Sensual Everafter, is so Beautiful, another song only a genius could write. Blue

I too LOVE TRC (& The Sensual Everafter for that matter)
All of the good points mentioned above are right on! I also love how when you listen to the song TRC on headphones. you can hear the chorus background vocals drift from one side of the mix to the other. "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

TRC was the Prince album that made me re-evaluate my image of Prince.His evolution from "sex-god" icon to revolutionary spritual leader for the 21 century.
This album will never be understood by the "masses",but it will rank as one of his masterpieces. |

TRC is awesome BUT I still would prefer the track (and whole album) without the voiceover. IMHO the TRC album would be one of his best ever without the voiceover AND it would be more accessible to non-fans and therefore quite possibly a hit.
Yes I know Prince is not bothered with it being a hit but I think it would be nice if the general public could be exposed to such musical genius (but the voiceover would just turn them off). I have managed to kind of ignore it now and focus on the music in the background but as I said I REALLY WISH IT HAD NO VOICEOVER 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything. | |

trc is brilliant a very could change of gears, but no one feeling everywhere and those drums and sensual everafter? those are the best songs on the album, along with trc I seem 2 always hum and sing the rainbow children it sticks with u. stickman | |
