There are SO many better fonts for title work that have that clean vibe but not be so god awful boring and stale. Just me. Helvetica Ultra Light was quite fashionable in the 90s I saw it on loads of album covers. I was replying to Horatio, who has a quite eclectic sense of style, I was suggesting to him that he likes it probably because it has a 20s feel. The way it's used on this album cover, reminds me of all the big fashion designer logos that were designed in the 70s - you know, Avant Garde Futura is retro but still a pretty classic typeface - I mean even IKEA uses it

I wouldn't mind if Prince just brought it out in a simple white Paperboard CD Sleeve! I'll buy it! ...

One thing i agree with Prince is the protection of artists work. People like the PFU's here need to be bitch-smacked with a broom. Peoples hard work should be rewarded and protected. BUY what you want, its that simple unless someone WANTS to give it to you. Anyway, thats my rant, and its only a matter of time before governments act more forcefully on the matter. in the meantime virus's on illegal copies of stuff should make the kiddies think twice about downloading shit.

WHY WOULD I SPEND A PENNY, ON A MAN THAT DOESN'T EVEN WANT HIS OWN FANS TO LISTEN TO HIS MUSIC, OR WATCH HIS VIDEOS ONLINE? WHY WOULD I SPEND A PENNY ON A MAN THAT SEEM TO HATE HIS FANS, AND ACTS LIKE THEY DON'T EXIST, OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THEM? I can't wait to spend my hard-earned money on this living legend. He is who he is. He's not forcing anyone to buy his records. I choose to because I love his music. His music is one of the most exciting parts of my life. I don't give a fuck if he has parties in Hollywood. As long as I have access to his music, when he chooses to provide access. Sorry you're so bitter. I've got a guitar that can part the sea.

Ridiculous concept but that's okay it is Prince and he can be as far out as he likes. Shame about the terrible, terrible execution. Follows the recent trend of cheap looking digital design on prince products. The guy needs to hire some professionals using top quality tools to a high standard. Expect more of the same on the new website.
(For that matter a problem with much of Prince's recent musical output is the inescapable digital sheen on all his production work.) On a positive note at least it is visually striking and will stand out in the record store. ak

I don't like it.
Oh well, moving on.... Chocolate box sounds funkay funkay, so the music may make up for it. "For those who know the number and don't call...Fuck all y'all"

Too many threadpages to go through, but i am by reactions which give the impression seeing the cover for the very first time,
while it's actually a framed detail from the lotusflower-site (minus the album-fonts) which has been launched online much earlier than the albumcover. I don't get that. [Edited 2/24/09 2:15am]

That's what's known as BRANDING, a marketing tool. No doubt the live show will have elements of the same, perhaps a backdrop of similar imagery, or tambourines with that pyramid on it, or church fans with the same artwork on it, and most certainly... wall posters. It's conditioning: using the same sets of images (and other things) over and over again until it causes a certain response. It's like the Pepsi logo or the Budweiser emblem, even if they come out with a new flavor (ie: Diet Pepsi or Bud Light), they hit you with the same logo (or a similar one with only slight variations). BRANDING. Years from now and long after he's moved on to something else, when you see this artwork; a bell will go off in your head and remind you of the music and experiences you had with this music (Think: Pavlov's dogs - or better yet, how many times were we all hit with that image of him with that shiny purple trench coat, on that purple motorcycle, with those curly locks flipped down over one eye, from the cover of Purple Rain? That same picture was EVERYWHERE. And now, so many years later, when you see that image, you think not only of the music and the movie, but everything you were doing at the time that media was proliferated everywhere - over and over and over). BRANDING. As another point of reference, related in no small part to this very thing: Have you ever ordered the digital remaster of some great music that you used to like back in the day, and when it arrives there's some new updated, completely different cover on it? This happens a lot with Imports too. Even though it's the exact same music, even a better version of it since it's remastered, but you feel cheated because it's not that old cover that you grew over time to associate with that specific music. And even though you listen to it, you wonder to yourself if it's actually that VERY SAME music, all because they "updated" the cover, lol. So, in a nutshell; that's why you're seeing the same imagery on the website and now as a cover for the album. BRANDING.
