Nice post, and I agree with it in spirit, but what used to be fun, whimsical and mysterious when when you were young has a way of eventually turning into plain old work as you grow older. Plus, it used to be all about the music. now it seems as if it's too often just about "Prince being Prince" for the sheer sake of it. I've grown tired of the petulance, arrogance and what at times to be nothing more than utter disdain shown by this man for the people that afford him his lavish lifestyle, fame and fortune.

So why don't u move onto other pursuits? Why come here to complain about what Prince is or is not doing? Obviously Prince is not who u want him to be and will never be so what's your point?

ahem-because like coltrane and others i have a genuine LOVE for prince's music-its the soundtrack to my entire life-so thats why i feel like i can be critical when i need to be-and dare i say i feel at a certain level i understand his music and where hes coming from-i enjoyed RAVE but to me thats as far as genuine prince as i ever heard-however shit like NEWS and ONA just felt so honest-and i lapped it up-give me piano and voice over planet earth anyday

i never guessed when TRC/NEWS ONA dropped we'd be going back to the kiddy chart chasing shit of"never be another"

still im loving wall of berlin so.....swings and roundabouts

but dont get so defensive-you sound for want of a better word obsessed

I can understand your frustration jonylawson. Just like yourself I want some quality new music, but at this point in Prince's career I'm just glad that he's putting out new music at all! Everyone's taste in what they consider "quality music" is different. Like for example TRC - some believe it to be a masterpiece, others total crap. I also would like to point out that having experience in the field of music, being a music producer, engineer or a musician yourself doesn't make you an expert in what 'quality music" is for another. You'd be surprised that there are many in the forum who use this as proof a song's crapiness.

Artistic expression can only be judged by it's recipient. In that aspect, Prince is truly an "artist" because he chooses to express his creativity in many different ways. Whereas you may only want the music, others like myself enjoy the creative aspect of his sites as well (although most were not as professionaly constructed as I hoped). Then there are others who like receiving actual jewel cases with photography and lyric books. Moreover, there are many Prince fans who enjoy collecting memorabillia like his books, magazines, posters, fragrances etc. It's all a matter of how you enjoy being a Prince fan. Imagery, ambiance, interactivity - they all create an experience, and in essence that's what Prince has been doing since he started his career. He has set up a stage persona and he is staying true to it.

As for the "grown adults" statement, it's all a matter of what you consider to be adult-like behavior. I, for one enjoy the interactivity of a web site. Web site designs that include nothing but text content and links seem monotonous and boring to me. I also like participating in chat rooms and forums, just like this one so if that makes me not an adult, I say whatever floats your boat. There are alternate ways to obtain Prince's music (legally). For one, there's iTunes. I'm sure his 3 new albums will be placed on there sooner or later once they have debuted on lotusflow3r.com. It will save you the hassle of paying a nominal fee for access to a web site that is in your opinion intended for a younger generation.
