IF Prince would of done that the papers would of been going nuts . "oh my God. Prince is SOOO dirty" etc etc. I thought Bruce did a good job..... but his set was BORING and he really shouldn't of been running around so much cause he was huffing and puffing and his vocals were bad cause of it... Was not overly excited about he song's he did either. I figured BORN IN THE USA would of been a great one to end with. Also.... the whole rain thing with Prince was just SOO magically and his set was sooo cool. My vote goes to Mr. Nelson.

If you took the best parts of prissy Prince's and semi spry Springsteen's shows
THEN - you might have a semi decent 1/2 time show might

Prince was better. There is no question. Bruce had more "fun" on stage? lol I've never seen anyone have as much fun on stage as Prince does..... LIVE4LUV

if you ask Bruce fans - Bruce is the winner
if you ask Prince fans - you get both Prince and Bruce Bruce is at the top of his game now, played full songs and a new one Prince is a struggling artist mixed up in religion and playing cover songs (but I liked Prince better) so in the end Bruce is the winner

Hell Yea! i loved it! Prince doing the Superbowl! the stadium was packed! the crowed loved it! How many times have you seen Prince play the superbowl in the rain to a packed cheering crowd, tearing it up till suddenly fireworks fill the sky! It was awesome! Would it have been better if he ended this maybe once in a lifetime show to "Lolita" "love" "get on the boat"? i think not. [Edited 2/3/09 19:03pm]

the crowd wasnt cheering for the record.....that was the crowd surrounding the stage who were ordered to act and scream like they were crazed prince fans
did you not see the same group surrounding the stage for bruce? then again, i guess it would look odd if it were an empty field

The 10 Unforgivable Sins Of Bruce Springsteen's Performance At The Super Bowl Posted Sun Feb 1, 2009 7:13pm PST by Rob O'Connor in List Of The Day You may find this hard to believe, but I am a Bruce Springsteen fan. I may not come across as someone who would enjoy his music, but from "For You," "Backstreets," "Darkness On The Edge of Town," "The Promise" to "The River," "Nebraska," "Tougher Than The Rest," "I Wish I Were Blind" and "Radio Nowhere," I can find plenty to recommend of the man's music. His new album Working On A Dream, the stillborn title track and "Outlaw Pete" aside, is the best thing he's cut in years. But that half-time show at the Super Bowl--12 excruciating minutes--puts me in an indefensible position to the people who I've been trying to convert for all these years. Now they'll never listen to me. Since this is LIST OF THE DAY, I will present to you in list form my reasons for why this was an abomination. 4) Bruce has a referee come out and declare it "Boss Time." I admit I don't what happened here. I was pacing the floor and telling myself this wasn't happening around this point. But suddenly I see a guy in a ref outfit come out and I hear somebody call it "Boss Time." Why not have MC Hammer come out and declare it "Hammer Time"? It might as well be. 2) He sticks poor Clarence on COWBELL. For "Glory Days," suddenly Clarence is shuttled off his beloved saxophone, a horn section is bought out front and Clarence is given the lowly COWBELL. Now, the Cowbell has always been an in-joke for all rock bands ever since Saturday Night Live and Blue Oyster Cult deemed "more cowbell" a worthy epithet. Do you think anyone in that stadium heard that cowbell? I bet even Clarence couldn't hear the damn thing. . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It was a Little diffucult I'm sure with the weather being the way it was and the stage being soaking wet for Prince to be any more "energetic". Prince had to be very careful and not bust his azz & more importantly not get electrocuted. His performance IMO was the best ever. Bruce did a good job, but alot was missing in his performance. Prince simply nailed it!!!! Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Now they'll never listen to me. Since this is LIST OF THE DAY, I will present to you in list form my reasons for why this was an abomination. 10) Bruce addresses the TV camera and tells everyone to drop the guacamole dip and chicken fingers to join him. No need to cajole us Bruce, we're in our comfy chairs and ready to rock. Don't tell me what to do and don't slide into the camera. That's hokey! 9) He opens with "Tenth Avenue Freezeout." The only version of this song I've ever admired is the incredibly funky one that struts out from the Hammersmith Odeon Concert available on the DVD of Born To Run: 30th Anniversary Edition. The E Street Band has never been a funky outfit and with as many people on stage as they had on Super Bowl Sunday, it was bound to sound stilted and as corny as ever. 8) There were too many people on the stage. After five members in a band most rock 'n' roll groups get noticeably worse with each additional member. Van Morrison is the exception to this rule and Bruce has skirted it by employing top notch guys like Miami Steve and Nils Lofgren. However, he had at least six guitar players onstage. All playing the same parts. Add on the horn section and we're talking chaos. 7) Bruce had to sneak in the title track to his new album. OK, Bruce is going to use the limited time he has to sneak in a little plug for his new album. Can't blame him for trying. Can't blame us for not wanting to hear it. 6) Bruce sneaks in a gospel choir for two minutes. Throw in the gospel choir and it's right back to that sanctimonious vibe that always creeps me out. 5) Bruce changes the reference from baseball to football in "Glory Days." It's always been obvious that Bruce is no sports fan. No big deal. Neither am I, for the most part. But even I know it's called a "fastball" and not a "speedball" (that's what you do when you hang out with John Belushi) and to change the reference to a "Hail Mary" pass in football and make the arm gesture that you're throwing the ball is pretty over-obvious. 3) Bruce has apparently joined "Up With People." Everything else aside, Bruce was simply too corny for his own good. It was embarrassing. It was the sight of a guy trying too hard and overcompensating for his ill-ease. It's always been said that Bruce shows more restraint than Billy Joel or Meat Loaf but here he's just killing us with show biz overkill. Rock 'n' Roll, as antiquated a notion as it is these days, is supposed to stay apart from Show Biz. This was pure Cheeze-Whiz. 1) Bruce makes me wish there had been a wardrobe malfunction. Janet Jackson exposes a breast. Mick Jagger gets bleeped during "Start Me Up." Bruce comes with the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. C'mon, Bruce, be a little more edgy. At least do something controversial beyond just being so damned happy and people-pleasing. It's like you're Paul McCartney all of a sudden.

i really enjoyed the Boss's performance.
unfortunately, (and im waiting 4 bricks here), Springsteen would probably have a more diverse buying public than Prince does these days. Would playing new songs from P really entice ppl to get off their butts and go buy his new music. besides, didnt PE come out a long time after the superbowl as well? ppl have short memories. P's performance kicked butt tho seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before

I'm a huge fan of both of them. Bruce is in a much healthier state musically than Prince is nowadays, but if you're comparing half-time shows then there's no competition. Prince wins hands down. I enjoyed Bruce's performance and I'm a big enough fan that I can overlook the cheese, but with Prince I didn't have to overlook anything cos his performance was flawless (except for maybe his vocals on "The Best of You", but the solos more than made up for that). "All Along The Watchtower" and "Purple Rain" in particular have to be two of the coolest moments in Superbowl history.
Bruce's voice on that show was knackered. It wasn't just that he was out of breath, it's that his voice nowadays just ain't what it used to be. It hurt the performance. Also, the Superbowl format forced Bruce to play his clownish side, and that's not the side fans love him for. We love him for his darker side (at least I do). Prince walked in there as a cool muthafucka and he left as a cool muthafucka. Bruce rolled in as an overexcited vaudeville comedian and left pretty much the same way too. But I have to admit, I loved that banter with Miami Steve on "Glory Days". "Steve, I think it's quitting time." "No way." "Then Steve, what time is it?" "It's BOSS TIME!" “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

So true It would be like going on a Bruce Springsteen fansite and asking the same question.I don't see why we have to compare anyway. They're two entirely different artists, doing their own thing. . [Edited 2/5/09 2:30am]

Bruce's vocals where live but the band where playing to a backing tape like so many others, Prince wasn't real music by real musicians ....live!
