(What Would You Put On A) PRINCE 6 CD CAREER SPANNING BOX SET

just bought myself the kinks recent box set of their career and i was wondering what a prince 6 cd box set would contain...he certainly has plenty to choose from...what would you put on it ?....i will have a wee think and then put up what i think would be a good tracklist for it....lets keep the 6 cds to officially released stuff with maybe a bonus cd of unreleased stuff ...so what do you think biggrin

OK This is hard but its time to start the topic. I will make it Chronological and include Bsides, unofficial tracks etc. But here goes (anything not on an album or bside bracketted)

Disc 1 1975-1979
1. Games (Pepe Willie 1975)
2. Machine (Original champagne demo 1976)

5. Soft and wet (Sound 80, 1977)
6. In Love
7. For You
8. I'm Yours
9. Baby
10. Just another sucker (94 East session, late 1978)
11. Wouldn't u love 2 love me (With Sue Ann Carwell 1978)
12. Donna (Home session 78/79)
13. You (Rebels Sessions 1979)
14. Disco Away (Rebels)
15. If I love u tonight (Rebels)

This early disc would be a collectors nugget and part of the selling point of the whole set. Many fans would love to listen to this early stuff, Tracks 11, 13 and 15 are early versions of later songs.

Disc 2 1979 - 1982

1. I wanna be your lover
2. Sexy Dancer
3. I Feel 4 U
4. Big Brass bed/Bulgaria (79-80 sessions)

8. Manic Monday
9. When Doves Cry
10. Purple Rain
11. 17 Days

13. The Dance
14. Song of the Heart
15. Lion Of Judah
16. Chelsea Rogers
17. Guitar
18. Rocksteady/Whole lotta love (Indigo nights)

Well there you are, more an anthology rather than a crowd pleasing wrap up of hits (Theres enough of those already), I think true fans would like this mix, it needs to be long boxed and with a 60 or so page book explaining the music and Prince.
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

I wish I could find more, but those ones sound great already. Imagine a 6cd set with just outtakes and demos or songs Prince gave to someone else. Besides I refuse to buy a record without When 2 R in Love is on lol

Hopefully someone else will deliver the goods (I only had my copy of DMSR)

As far as a greatest hits retrospective goes, this is probably what I would have put too. And you include some better album tracks like In Love, Wasted kisses and good bsides like 17 days, I think everyone minus a super hardcore fan would buy it biggrin Good list
