New Albums - What if? What if the new songs we have heard already are what prince considers to be the worst on the new albums? And the best ones are being left for the actual release. If you notice in the interviews etc you don't hear about the songs that have been put up already you just hear about others. What do you think? x

I was wondering the same. Almost like realtors do by showing the worst possible home first, then getting better, and better each home they show, then blowing your mind with the last home they decide to show ya. However, If that is the case, I am loving the worst of them, so I guess I will wet myself when I hear the rest. *chuckles* [Edited 1/27/09 5:04am] -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!

It has occurred to me. However, I'm not entirely sure that Prince and I always agree on what his best and worst songs are. I'm thinking about his choice of first singles from various projects, which surely should be the tracks he considers the best? I rarely think they are the same as I would have chosen. RIP

That's like saying a Director might release a movie trailer containing only the boring bits of his movie.. which makes no sense, as there will be no incentive to go see the movie.. I understand that the liddle man is at times a bit odd, but why would he purposely release the weakest tracks? If the aim is to secure hype for the upcomming albums surely the opposite would be true? One minute they want peace……
Then do everything to make it go away.

If he thought the whole thing was stellar, then even weak tracks would be good. I agree though, to intentionally do it seems daft. RIP

First of all: Best doesn't necessarily mean commercially succesful. I think, for example, that Condition Of The Heart is one of the best songs on ATWIAD, but it would never work as a single.
I don't think Prince would release the worst songs of an album first. It has to be a mixture so people can picture out what the whole project sounds like. Apart from that, the guys on Indie mentioned that they decided about which tracks were going to be played. Of course they needed Prince's approval, but still...

to each their own,
some may think the best songs are the ones we have already heard and some may be more into the ones yet to come, it's sort of a personal thing, I always find that Prince songs grow on me, so I may at one time prefer one song and then after a few listens gravitate to another that's the way I usually get down~~ One thing is for sure tho, I don't think I have ever been this excited for a new Prince Album!! ~ Eye would never turn my back on your love~

for someone who has as much material to pick from when compiling an album
i sincerely think that there are no bad tracks, not to prince anyway. why put a song on an album that you consider "the worst" on that album if you have many more to chose from that would fit in better with the rest? heck, he would simply take it off and go record another one. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I don't think he would use the least good songs to advertise his upcoming album, but all of them might not necessarily be the best.

I think that makes sense. It would be smart. If we love the ones we hear now and the rest of the album is even better, wonderful! Peace and love
