I'm going to guess you mean the 1986 version, since the original 1983 version isn't circulating (although the GB version is based on it's basic tracks).

It's brilliant...I think it has to be in my top 10 of Prince songs.

Bah, screw what I wrote. I like the 86 version better, though I wish it was sped up a little bit.

Listening to it again, the real instrumentation and the lack of a woman talking about pissing in a cup makes it far better.

But George Clinton...he's still a nice addition to the song.

I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.

I dunno what the h20 set is - i wish I did :p cause i'd love to hear every version of this song that exists biggrin

And, omg, listening back to back now, the ending of the GB version is better. Far more energy, it's a great build up.

As Far as I know there are two different mixes of the 86 version circulating, could be more.

One is a much cleaner quality and is slower but the vocals are right up front and I think you lose a lot of the song in this version because the vocals are so in your face.

This version (mix) is on The Work.

There is a similar mix and slightly longer version of Data Bank where the vocals are right up front and the tempo is slower.

I believe these two versions are at the correct speed.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I like the originals 2, just like the original Tick, Tick Bang (way better than the GB version). But the George Clinton version of We Can Funk! (not the one on GB) is hot!

Me too, it almost sounds like it's being dragged across the floor - very new sounding for such a long time ago

i would say more of a outtake than a demo cause several versions around this time included bits by george clinton. these could have been when prince would record something then send it 2 george 2 add on it and vice versa

I've heard like 90 seconds of the original version. It is in circulation, at that snippet is. It's not the 1986 version with The Revolution. It's the originally titled 'We Can Fuck', this version is from 1983 featuring those same original vocals by Lisa Coleman, Wendy and Susannah Melvoin that would be used on the revamped version. It does sound better than the revamped version released in 1990. I think so, I would love 2 hear that in full.
