I had a bitch of a time in the 3rd grade in spelling classes. Though I was taught the correct spellings of words originally, the teacher was American and so would mark anything spelled properly as incorrect, crossing out the real spelling and writing in the American one. Such a pain in the ass to have to remember as an 8 year old that I had to tailor my spelling for a teacher who couldn't read. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

The trouble with Prince's use of language is that at the time it was cool but now we have mobiles (cell phones) and every teen (and plenty of adults) use textese (SMS language). So it's ended up looking fairly adolescent now.
I use predictive text so can hold my head high. Apart from when I'm on Live and then I'm well 3lt3 on COD4 as Xb0xrR0xrUrS0xr. Now I'm taking the piss. But see how it's a fine line between the two uses? I did like GTA4's internet cafe's called tw@. Made me grin mildly.

viewaskew said: I agree it's juvenile. He is a 50 year old man. It's time to stop writing like a 14 year old girl. He makes his fans look like morons, too. Imagine yourself going into Best Buy & asking for this album. The clerk goes to the computer & types in Lotus Flower & you have to correct him - "No, no...you have to spell it like Prince does. Put a 3 in place of the e." Retarded. But as a longtime fan, there are a lot worse things he's done lately.
That there is no really official Prince site, where you can get news on all 3 albums is a lot more of an act of stupidity on his part. Not that this site doesn't do an amazing job & any official site would be heavily censored & bursting with wackjobs & spiritual horseshittery, but maybe, sooner or later, they'd post a release date for the damn CDs. But, C'mon. Let's think for a moment. There are adult artist doing this all the time! They might not all change their E's to 3's but many of them spell their names all wrong. Snoop DoGG Flo Rida Limp Bizkit Soulja Boy (not that he is an adult just yet, but anyway) 2Pac had an album...All EyeZ on me Outkast Fabolous Bubba Sparxxx Young Jeezy (Hey, I like him, but, not many white folks know how to spell "Jeezy" if they were looking for the cd for their kid)(haha) All I am saying is, if we are talking about how Prince "messes" up the English language with his symbols and so forth, personally I do not think it is any worse than what other people do. I won't ever forget laughing my head off the first time I heard Plies "Bust it Baby" song. I LOVE that song, but I thought it was so funny when he said "Put your neeeumba in my phone" *even I cannot spell it like he said it* It is not because he talks that way. I have heard other songs where he says "number" just fine....it is to be cute! And hey...No matter if Prince uses a freaking E or a 3...to me...it's all good, and all cute! No worries here! -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!

BartVanHemelen said: That's because his royal dumbass decided once again to have an album-centered website instead of an artist-centered one. And then found out lotusflower.com was taken. Actually, I think this is a noteworthy thing to bring up. And this is to not confuse the fans who would like to keep up with prince who don't regularly visit fan sites. Prince does not have an official website. Instead, he creates this bogus looking sites (lotusflow3r? for fucks sake) that will only be around until the album quites selling. He milks the cow and vanishes, leaving everyone without any real knowledge about news, tours, or music. If that is how he gets down, by all means.. keep going in that stupid direction. but most artists have an official website that people can visit, and don't have to keep up with the latest site that will only temporarily be there.. I agree that he should (or it would be nice if he would) pick and stick with one website. I would personally love to know what he is doing and when music is coming. BUT...This is Prince! Prince values the fact that he is not like the rest. He seems to enjoy a mystery, and being mysterious. He does not want everyone to know every move he makes, that is apparent. And I don't knock him for being and doing his own thing. If he only wants a website to promote new albums, fine! I am not having to pay for it. All I have to do is find it. And that honestly, is not hard to do. Where I think NPGMC should have hung around, apparently he did not feel it should have, so here we are. But again, it is Prince. Who am I to question anything he does, or does not do? I sorta like the mystery. Anyway, I don't know if this site will be around for a bit or not, but it seems to me that it should be around for some time because the site seems to make reference to us being able to order concert tickets and so forth. So, whatever. I am cool. If it only lasts a year, I will just go find the next one he creates. Yeah, again, it would be nice to have a perm. website, but I guess this is just HIS way of doing things. He does not have to be like the rest. [Edited 1/27/09 5:44am] [Edited 1/27/09 5:45am] -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!

If that isn't messing up the English language what is. It enough that a high percentage of rap fans, are likely to be of low educational status that these rappers have to dumb it down further Where it IS true that many "rappers" use incorrect English, it is also true that "country folk" to as well. First of all, I am a huge Prince fan. he is my favorite singer/artist of all time. But, running in at second base for my favorite type of music is Rap/Hip Hop. I, personally, am very educated and will be persuing my Masters degree in a few months. And guess what? A lot of people that are persuing their Masters are rap fans. Just because they "sing" like that (using those words) and even talk like that does not make them stupid or ignorant. Some may not be educated, but there are many that are! But yes, it is incorrect English, but so is..."Where's the farrr (fire), and shut that winderrrr (window), and come hif me (come with me) Yeah, incorrect english abounds! But it is just a thing. At times, a possibly irritating thing, but nevertheless, a thing! Which is why I think this entire thread is a lil' silly. We all know Prince is a genious. So, he uses lil symbolical meanings, WHO freaking cares??? It happens everywhere. [Edited 1/27/09 5:45am] [Edited 1/27/09 5:47am] -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!
