No I always thought he was saying "starve a nation" thus why he screams NO at the end of the song

Not only is that what DTT says, but it also fits the theme of the song, which has themes like Africa (starvation), despair and the need to overcome all of that. The starvation theme is also easily placed in time, as 1985 saw him contribute a song about hope to the USA For Africa album and broadcast. It's a theme that returns on the title track of Sign  The Times as well. |
