Prince Samples: Rap and Hip-Hop Utilization There's a thread on the org called:
Did P Release That Damn $700 Smple Set??? http://www.prince.org/msg...msg_287909 Says the 7 CD set never was released for sale. It was all talk and hype??? Wondering have or do rap and hip-hop artists actively seek to obtain the permission/licenses to sample his stuff and use it in songs? Does Prince or Warner's not allow it, if they do allow it is it just too expensive? If the rap, hip-hop world were allowed to sample and creatively explore his stuff like they have George Clinton, Parliament, James Brown, etc. would a younger, newer generation of music buyers "discover" Prince for themselves?

Universal license Prince samples now. At least I think so. They are credited on the 'If I was Your Girlfriend' interplotation on'Bonnieand Clyde'.

I don't know if they're too expensive, but an ungrateful leech named Sean Combs once complained bitterly about Motown's sampling fees being too expensive. So, who knows, maybe it could have something to do with it. Over the years I hear more singers covering his songs than rappers sampling his music. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I was the one that started the thread that were talking about (the link above)
Yeah I asked this Question because the commercial 4 it sounded really cool, and would've been something so grand man. I really could'nt spen $700 on Prince album, but it would've been cool if some one bougt it and copied it 4 me. George Clinton does have a bootleg sample set containing stuff from the early 70's - 80's. I don't own it though. I have heard samples of it. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I've got one of the George CLinton sample CDs - it's called Sample Some of Dis Sample Some of Dat. Basically u buy the cd, and the inlay card has all the legal details of what u do if u release a song with a sample in it (ie royalty payments etc.). It's a really cool idea IMO

Doesn't anyone remember MC Hammer's "Pray"? It used the music from When Doves Cry.
This was before the sampling got out of hand (i.e. Puff Daddy).
