Is any one crazy about the new prince stuff?

I just heard three of princes new songs, the crimson & clover is good, but the other two im not too thrilled about.
In my opinion,i feel like prince is moving away from funk / poppy radio music, and from all the recent stuff on the radio, i would too.
Yea, he is maturing in music and there is nothing worng with that, but for me, i like his live and after concert performances, his guitar playing and such ,but right now his music aint doin it for me.
Im still a prince fan!

I'm crazy about the new stuff I've heard. Whether you dig what you've heard or not, we all have to wait and see how all the CD's sound. I hope the majority of fans will dig the stuff, including me.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

of the 6 or 7 new songs we've heard in the last year, I'm only crazy about Crimson & Clover.

i think it's just an opportunity to sit back and tackle a song and let loose on something instead of trying to live up to some expectation or let his more irritating lyrical quirks of the last decade+ drag things down.

it's almost a relief when he takes on something like C&C, The Best Of You, Creep, etc. you can hear him somewhat liberated from cramming a message down our throats (Colonized Mind), amateurish come-ons (Wall Of Berlin), or just falling flat on his face while he's trying to convince everyone what a bad-ass he is (There'll Never B Another Like Me).

I agree completely, though Colonized Mind is not as hardcore as some of his recent material in terms of message. For me the song is closer to 'Controversy' and 'The Ladder' in that you can blow off some of the ideology and still enjoy the whole.

4ever is half good, half meh, Assembly of God Church Quality Music.

Wall of Berlin is fun to me. The chorus is catchy, the guitar work is great.

Colonized Mind is just awesome anyway you slice it. Period.

I like Another Like Me, but could do without the "WHOOOOO!" that repeats throughout.
I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.

I'm not crazy about the new stuff, but I would like some new tunes, and a few seem to be decent.

Having said that, I wouldn't mind it from any artist I like.. It's back to the slow season for music, and I guess I'll take even the half bunk stuff..

I like the songs with the exception of There'll Never Be Another.
The only problem I have with the songs is that some of the lyrics seem half-baked.

The more I hear the new stuff, the less enthralled I am. There is nothing that excites me quite like a good new Prince song, so this is very disappointing.

Crimson & Clover is the best of the bunch, which is sad considering it's a cover. The guitar and vocal effects are wonderfully executed.

Let's start with the worst, which is undoubtedly the dreadful Another Like Me. Contrived canned beats and self-effacing egotism? An insincere attempt at sounding hip and fun? Why, it's the unwanted return of late 90's Prince!

Forever follows not too far behind with some of the most uninspired romantic generalities Prince has ever written. To top it off, it has a lazy hook for a chorus and a one-dimensional overall sound. Prince has had a multitude of romances, including two marriages, and yet he has nothing profound or even interesting to say on the topic. Amazing.

Wall of Berlin has a catchy rhythm to its chorus and some lyrically interesting moments but is otherwise pedestrian in its come-ons. Likewise, the guitar work, while technically impressive, lacks any memorable hooks to merit repeated listens.

Colonized Mind has fittingly somber guitar and builds to a nice climax of frustration, but the lyrics nearly kill it. The major problem is that Prince thinks he's being a lot more insightful than he really is. The messages here are embarrassingly mundane. We need God, democracy only entails limited freedoms, etc., etc. These are the pontifications of a religious teenager who just took his first political science course.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I completely agree with this.
I hope that this is some kind of sick joke Prince is trying to play on us, but considering that he has already released songs as bad as this, I'm afraid that it's no joke.

I like sarcasm too, but it doesn't make the new music any better.

It is very dreadful..

Keep in mind what he recently said, "People ask me, 'Why don't you sound like you used to?' " he said by way of introduction. "But that music doesn't have any wave energy to it. It'll move a party, but that's not what I'm doing here."

I find that funny when we get focused particular on a track.. like this Another Like me, lyrically and the entire vibe is party oriented.. and it gets worse with each listen. I for one, don't want reverting to the past, but i would like the songs to sound good.. if this song is any indication of moving forward, i find it more like creating a dreadful gap of filler.

lets hope for the better with the full album

This is a most pitiful post.

Who are these wannabes you are speaking of? Why are you mentioning his past work? I never compared these new songs to anything he's done before. Judged solely on their own merits, I've concluded that these tracks are generally poor.

I suggest you spend less time blindly worshipping Prince and more time trying to improve your appalling English writing skills.
