Prince most underrated songs I think one is Alphabet street, its not as deep as the other songs he has done but it has a nice beat to it and i love P's voice on it.
And 'Forever in my life' being on the same album it gets overshone by Adore. Passionate lyrics put on a beat with just a drum machine, Susannah was a lucky girl to have that song written for her .I put it on top 5 of his best songs. Whether they've been released or not what do you think is his most underated song(s)? [Edited 1/12/09 16:34pm]

Purple Rain! nah j/k
Hot Wit U (gotta dig that nasty girl hook) Adore (falsetto madness) Morning Papers (the opening lyrics kill) When We're Dancing Close N Slow (falsetto madness again) Starfish N Coffee (that chorus is just too catchy) Shit pretty much anything that didn't get heavy rotation on the air or video waves. Prince himself is underrated I think

I agree with the 'Anything that wasn't on Purple Rain' idea. I'd also add in Sign o' the Times as well.
For me, I'd have to say, 'We Can Funk.' Such an amazing song. I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.

under rated in terms of general public: Lady Cab Driver
amongst the fans: Tambourine? (the drumming is amazing and some people seem to hate this song)

I love 'We Can Funk'. 'New Power Generation' doesn't seem to get enough love. 'Party Man' is so fun. Does 'Anna Stesia' get mentioned all that much on here? Just incase; It's so open and heart-renching. I think on some levels P can hold back on going really personal and self examining. When I first heard this, I was kinda suprised.

TEMPTATION from ARound The WORLD In A DAY.....NOBODY ever mentions it ever and it's an AWESOME song that really reminds me of a song that could be in PURPLE RAIN and DANCE ON from LOVESEXY which is OVERLOOKED also. And finally EYE KNOW...also from LOVESEXY...how about the WHOLE LOVESEXY album which is WONDERFUL!

Agree about the not getting extremely personal. So, to this, I can also add 'Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife.' And I wish I'd brought this one up earlier, because it's probably one of the most personal songs I've heard from Prince. You can tell where he was exactly - Mayte was pregnant, and he was trying to explain why his past was so full of other women, why he'd done the things he'd done, and hoped that she'd understand that it was all necessary to get to that point with her, and if she'd been there before then there'd have been no one else. When the two of them split, I was deeply saddened. Much of Emancipation (there are other songs almost as honest as this one) is a love letter to Mayte and Gregory both. If I ever held a hand It was only because I'd never held your hand That was part of the plan I had 2 get it right if I was 2 be your man And if I ever kissed your lips I needed time 2 cross the others off my list A higher high 2 the trip I wanted U 2 go, that was my wish - yes it was (Ooh my) Friend, lover, sister, mother/wife Air, food, water, love of my life If I ever shared a bed It was only cuz I wanted 2 live up 2 what the people said, oh yes What they say? Now I'm livin' instead Everyday just 2 say U're the only one who's in my head The only one Oh yes U are And if I ever made U cry All I have 2 do is think about it and I just wanna die I just wanna break down and die, die, die, die How I'd ever make it by (I don't know) without U, baby (without U, baby) I don't know (No!), I hope I never have 2 try, yeah (Please don't ever leave me) Oh, listen 2 me (Ooh my) Friend, lover, sister, mother/wife (My sweet, sweet friend, lover, sister, mother/wife) Air, food, water, love of my life The eyes of my child I see every time U look at me (I see a sweet baby smile) A sweet baby smile like a light that shines 4 all 2 see (And if I ever held a hand) If I ever held a hand Oh, 'twas only cuz I'd never held yours That was part of, part of the plan I had 2 get it right (right) if I was 2 be your man because... (Ooh my) Friend, lover, sister, mother/wife (Friend, lover, sister, mother/wife) My, my, my, my air, my food, my water, love of my life (I love U) (Everlasting life) Teacher (teacher), healer (healer), feeler (feeler), sight 4 sore eyes (Let me look at your eyes - U're so pretty) Oh, yes U are, baby (Ooh my) Don't U know U're my friend, my lover, my sister, love of my life (mother/wife) Yeah, baby, yes U are (Ooh my) Friend (te amo), lover (te amo), sister (te amo), mother/wife (Hug me, hug me, hug me baby, U are my life) (I'll stay with U 4ever) Till death do us part, baby (Yes sir!) Air (te amo), food (te amo), water (te amo), love (love of my life) U are the only, only love of my life My friend, lover, sister, mother/wife [Edited 1/12/09 23:11pm] [Edited 1/12/09 23:16pm] I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! The whole 'Around the world in a day' album.
His underrated masterpiede, especially the song 'The ladder', which I had the immense pleasure to enjoy live in Milan, 31 October 2002.

And also 'Dionne' and 'Welcome 2 the Dawn' on 'The Truth' album.
Off topic: I still hope in the two new albums. Please, something vibrating.... Y'know what I mean.

Though it's fine as it is, i'd love to see him re-record it on just the piano, like he performed it on that old Paisley Park documentary.

One of the(Many)highlights from the O2 in London was when he did Forever In My Life. Did it during one of the sampler sets but instead of just a snippet, he left it playing and sang the whole song. Just Prince on the stage, singing to the backing track. Real music by real musicians? Nope, Prince and a backing track. Did I care? Hell no. Can't remember what night it was. Seem to remember a hat for that performance too. RIP
