James Brown Benefit with MJ and Prince Has everyone in the world seen this video but me? It was truly a shock, to say the least.
Michael stood up and gave an incredible performance, something I never expected from him, and Prince? Well, the Prince we see on stage isn't the Prince we know - he was that shy guy who instead of rocking it out like a maniac, took the guitar, did a relatively week performance, refused to sing, and just took off his shirt and danced. Maybe it was him being coy? Maybe it was him being intimidated by the talent on the stage? Not sure. What I found most interesting what the James Brown didn't even seem to know that Prince was in the audience. Michael had to prompt Brown to invite Prince up to the stage, which may have been what made Prince choose to suck the big one. Though, you'd think, in light of that situation, he'd have done the opposite. Is this the only time Prince and MJ shared the stage? I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.

Lol, I think it's pretty obvious what the problem was. This is before Prince learned to just say no.

Uh, sounds to me like you've seen it. The icing on the cake was the unintentional lamppost prop stage dive. Maybe he dipped in to Big Chick's nose-candy stash. "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

Proof is when he drags the prop lamp post down into the crowd with him! That part is hilarious. The Kid was right fucked up. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

The standout part of that vid to me was when P took off his glove and tossed it into the audience, then whoever caught it threw it back at him. Also how MJ whispered in James's ear, he announced Prince, and Michael bolted.

Well, I'd wager that Prince probably freaked the asexual Michael Jackson out on many levels. Talent wise, obviously, but just the raw sexuality that Prince drips (particularly at that time) couldn't have been comfortable. Not to say they didn't have conversations, I know they obviously did over the years, what with the whole Bad thing. Plus, Michael probably had some delusions he was a better artist, and for a few minutes there, history agreed with him. That quickly changed though, and now it's pretty clear who's playing top and who's playing bottom :p I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Why do people constantly act like there was some rivalry between Michael and Prince? And a post about this clip comes up every 5 to 8 months "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. I always thought Michael tried to Ridicule Prince KNOWING he was DRUNK. I think Michael did that with We Are The World also. He's a PRICK actually and now he's Over and PRINCE is a JW.

How did Michael have anything to do with Prince not showing up at the We Are The World recording? so.... "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

He didn't have anything to do with that but I do believe that him and quincy and Lionel KNEW PRINCE WASN"T SHOWING UP then made it look like PRINCE said yes he was and TURNED his BACK on STARVING AFRICAN CHILDREN. All was UNTRUE and the PHOTOGRAPHERS were Crawling up P's BUTT at CARLOS and CHARLIES when it was PRINCE's time to CELEBRATE from the AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS. PLUS PRINCE was CHEATED by DICK CLARK who didn't give him as MANY awards as if he would to MICHAEL JACKSON. I Heard PRINCE felt THE WE ARE THE WORLd GIG was MICHAEL and LIONEL'S BABY. Plus, back in those DAYS if the Fans remember PRINCE didn't do ANYBODY ELSE'S songs. Now he DOES. So, yes..I gotta admit My HERO has CHANGED which I think is a Good thing concerning Certain things. But, I think he's Still the same in OTHER REGARDS which I LOVE.

No, they invited all of the big stars, and neither Prince or Madonna showed showed up. Dick Clark didn't cheat Prince. Thriller was at the 1984 show and Purple Rain was at the 1985 show. Did you see the competition he had at that show? Not to mention the American Music Awards are dictated by SALES "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Prince had NO COMPETITION! It was his YEAR! I read he was PISSED OFF at DICK CLARK. It was in the Daily News I believe Amy said it. And he Was Pissed off at QUINCY JONES also and that time he got next to him at the AMAS and put a microphone to him he had his LOLLYPOP that he handed him.

That quickly changed though, and now it's pretty clear who's playing top and who's playing bottom :p LOL, why would Michael had to have been delusional in order to think he was a "better" artist? Disregarding the fact that the definition of a "better artist" in music/entertainment is highly relative anyway (and is dependent on specific skills compared), even if MJ did ever think that he was the "better artist," those few minutes...excuse me...few decades of history would become a little major validation for his opinion. But, as usual, people will have their own judgments of who or what is better for whatever reason. I prefer not to compare them against each other. Oh, as I've always thought, I think Prince was nervous on stage that day with JB and MJ. Not drunk. Not on drugs. Just nervous. It doesn't make sense because they're very different artists with some similarities the Org has talked about this clip ad nauseum "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. You know, I realize that the MJ / Prince rivalry is old hat & all that. But the fact that it's been talked about before is irrelevant. Virtually every topic on the first page of this board is recycled in some form. Who cares? If you don't have anything to add then don't. Who gives a shit if it's beating a dead horse? If people want to talk about it then they should be able to. No matter how old the topic is. What about "fam" questions like 'What's your favorite Prince song, album, bowel movement, WHATEVER. If people want to discuss it then let them. Jackasses.

I don't know who you're calling jackasses but the fact that THIS CLIP is posted every couple of months and the same thing is said. This is a discussion board so someone has something to say, they can say it you're a new orger so you haven't seen the numerous threads about this clip "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them.
