Prince and NPGMC tracks in DRM format.

I have a question for the org - do you think that Prince put his NPGMC tracks in DRM format (limiting the copying ability) to get people to sit and listen to his music? I know that he was all about the "it's about the book" idea in 98, and maybe this transferred into those tracks? Thoughts, org?

Quality maybe? The fact that they can't be played now that the club is over with?

Well...for one thing...if you're on a Mac, you literally had to break the law (by stripping off the DRM) to play the tracks without acquiring the license each and every time. WMP is not supported by Apple...and hasn't been updated in ages. There isn't even a version that allows you to archive the tracks to CD. So Mac users either had to borrow a PC to download and burn the tracks to CD...or use a program like WireTap to rip the tracks.

It was a real pain in the ass.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Since the uninformed closure of the NPGMC, the tracks acquired through it have been rendered USELESS because of the DRM's that were attached to them from the NPGMC!
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

No, DRM is about trying to combat piracy.

The license on the music trax allowed you to burn the songs to cd in audio format. Also, if you had a media device that played windows formats, it played them fine also.

The problem came when the club closed and people reinstalled their machines and could not acquire the licenses anymore. Thank God I converted the files to WAV and mp3 formats. I couldn't ever get the videos to encode differently, though.
