Musicians Prince has made you a fan of I know many people whined and moaned about P giving too much time to other artists at his shows... but looking at it on a positive note because he did that I got turned on to a bunch of people I never really gave time to before. So my question for you is: what artists has P turned you onto because of either their appearance on his shows, songs, or his namedropping of them?
For me (in recent history): - Beverly Knight - Marva King - Mike Philips - Nikka Costa - Ledisi Change it one more time..

Sly Stone and funk in general. Also newer funk like stuff from Freestyle Records (a great find by the way). Also a bit of RnB.
Still can't drag me away from the mighty Floyd though.

When I heard him mention D'Angelo in Get Yo Groove On I went and bought a cd and have been a fan ever since. He also made me pay a lot closer attention to Miles Davis.

I never really heard much black music when I was younger. Prince got me into all kinds of music, especially soul. Nowadays soul is my favorite stuff. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Prince got me into all kinds of white music back in the day.
I mean, I'm from Finland and I was just listening to African-American stuff as a teenager. Sure jazz then changed that thing a bit. [Edited 1/17/09 12:49pm]

Joni.....and that's it. I heard them both talk about each other in seperate interviews in the late 80's. Not crazy about her 60's folk stuff but I LOVE her 70's thru the 90's jazz influenced stuff.
