Arguably, I beleive 'If I Was Your Girlfriend' to be one of the true defining examples of princes' musical genius. Furthermore, i believe the version taken from the SOTT concert movie actually transcends the beauty of the studio recording. The arrangement, that sillohette dancing, those spilts just complement each other so well.

Refering to this version, i just wanted to ask if anybody else feels like time stops when the snare drum crashes just after prince screams "before we go out" (smash!)

it feels like a week has passed before he he continues with his next lyrical phrase and its intensity for me is overwhealming.

had anybody else experienced this?

"If I Was Your Girlfriend" is definitely one of Prince's best songs ever...from a man's point of view, when I first heard it I connected with the emotions he was expressing...there was some deep passion in his wanting to be her best friend, her "one and only friend"...in how he found beautiful pleasure in doing the "ordinary" things in life; washing her hair, laughing together, going to the movies and crying together, helping her pick out what she'll wear when they go out...as much as any song he's written, "If I Was Your Girlfriend" poetically expresses the desires that reside inside the heart of a man who's truly in love...
