2morrow

Sometimes a song just needs to have some appreciation thrown its way. 2morrow is one of those songs.

I don't read a lot of people talking about this tune, but it's just a fantastic R&B number that feels pure and true to me. When I think back on Crystal Ball, this is one of the more distinctive tracks. Something that felt like it could have been on a more mainstream Prince release, but never made the cut for some reason or another.

Lyrically, while I may be a fan of the more braggart songs like Mr. Goodnight, I love this side of Prince even more. It's the Little Red Corvette/Darling Nikki side, where he shoes his trepidation in pursuing a woman and tells us all the reasons why. Most of which I find sweet and beautifully innocent. Not something we get that often in a Prince song.

The end of this track, when Prince launches into the great scat & trumpet duet...it's absolute gold.

Maybe that's why I'm *such* a fan of Musicology? Musicology seems to finish out the paragraph that 2morrow started way back in the day. In fact, over the years, I'd completely forgotten it was on Crystal Ball and had just thought it was part of the Musicology experience. When I was pulled out my Musicology disc in the car the other day, I was surprised that 2morrow was missing.

Anyone else have the mad love for this excellent cut?
I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.

I like that. It's brilliant and one of the most outstanding songs on the triple album.
It's a typical Princesque-teasing song and that's the power of it.
That era (1993-1994) spawned great music, he was really inspired.

It's never really grabbed me to be honest. Probably because I'm not so keen on the smooth R&B side of Prince. That's why I think Musicology is the weakest of his recent albums biggrin.

I certainyl don't hate the song though, it's never a skipper and lyrically it's definitely one of his better efforts.

Yeah, I'm noticing a lot of people don't seem to be the biggest fans of the smooth, classic R&B sound Prince plays with.

What exactly bothers you about it? Just curious? Is it because it doesn't feel "original" or specific to Prince?

Nothing really bothers me about it, like I said, I don't hate it. It just does nothing for me most of the time and feels kinda bland. That doesn't mean I dislike it all. For example I love Call My Name and I seem to be in a small minority that actually quite like Mr. Goodnight!! lol

But Stuff like emale, somebody's somebody, What do U Want Me 2 Do, Future Baby Mamma, Somewhere Here On Earth, just don't hit me. Most of those type of songs have some lovely lyrics but musically, they just leave me feeling a bit empty.

I like the funk and the rock, biggrin

My girlfriend heard "Emale" for the first time yesterday. She was laughing, and we were talking about how cutting edge it was at the time.

"oooh, lookit Prince singin' about email!"

She was particularly amused by the www and .com parts :p "My Computer" is the same way, though lyrically I prefer "My Computer" to "Emale"

I really like My Computer. I just wish he hadn't kept repeating, a better life' at the end. I love the music on that part but the voice gets a bit grating.

I dig Mr Goodnight and I LOVE Call My Name.

I also dig 2morrow. I love the groove on that song and I get a kick out of hearing bits of The Most Beautiful Girl In The World in it too. It's a cool, sexy, laid-back song that I like a lot.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I always liked this one nod very well done.
I'd say a standout from the CB set. Deff for the ballads.
I never really dug Goodnight and Crucial is a fade version disbelief
