According to George Clinton, "We Do this" is a new and still unreleased track that they've already been receiving sample requests for by the likes of Dallas Austin and other big-name producers.
Was Dallas Austin in the audience at the Prince aftershow in New York City where this was performed? Perhaps that's where he heard it. If so, I can understand why he's so anxious to sample it. It's a magical moment thankfully caught on tape with George Clinton, Maceo Parker, Larry Graham, John Blackwell, Renato Neato, and first and foremost, Prince driving the whole groove with some absolutely insane guitar playing. This would be right at home with any great live P-Funk concert classic. And I don't say that lightly. Basically the song came up in an interview with George Clinton when he was asked a question about relevancy because no new stuff is being added to the P-Funk live set. George Clinton then correctly sets the record straight that there is great new stuff, you just ain't heard it. Basically you'll hear it when some young, flavor-of-the-minute punk samples it on some "hot" new record. Or you could just buy the new Prince live set. If you want to hear George Clinton talk about this yourself, here is a very short Windows Media Player clip from an interview in the New Funk Times. http://www.newfunktimes.c...iew_07.wma "It would be ludicrous to think we are new to this, we do this, this is what we do!" -- George Clinton Brendan [This message was edited Sat Nov 30 16:50:39 PST 2002 by Brendan] | |
