If you do not care for the new stuff, then move on.
If you appreciate what Prince was, is, and always will be (an experimenting artist) then stick around and appreciate what he gives.
Personally, in my mind and taste, no one can beat Prince. His music/style/sounds have always appealed to me, and likely always will. I think he does what he feels when he feels it. He does not care if he sounds like what everyone else sounds like, or what he used to sound like. He does what he wants to do in a point in time.
He, is a musical genious.
He will never satisfy everyone/yet people tend to judge everything he does.

They can keep judging...I'll keep listening and jamming.
Good music is a matter of taste, but those that don't dig his anymore, should move on and stop berating every new song.

I know you are saying that with a heady level of snark and sarcasm but that is okay. It's not about getting the audience back. It's about these half assed marketing ploys that won't equal to branding the record in the public's mind. You think I am the only one who thinks this? Better think again on that one.

The marketers behind the scene are not going to run to help promote this. That's a fact. And it's the distributors and the social engineers/perception managert who run this, not the artist. Prince is so fueled on ego, he doesn't realize that. He thinks every record will be an epic event and calls up the LA times and thinks this time he has it right.

Meanwhile this whole press release (it's not article it's a press release) is championing the return of the electro retro prince and the premier of pro tools (desperately), a interesting guitar oriented record and the arrival of a new protege named Bria Valente who is somewhere between Mayte and J Lo on the interesting scale. MPLSound and Elixir looks and sounds extremely insincere from the songs I have heard. No one is going to go for this. Impression is everything especially in these 21st century days. But you missed the positive thing I said. Lotus does have a chance of being marketed a critics acclaimed choice. But talking about these other two just clutters it. Trust me, thats why no one will get behind promoting Prince.


Because people are waiting for the right marketing/promotion presentation and it hasn't been there since Diamond and Pearls. So what he has to do is drag out that Purple Rain melody one more time to the live audience. He knows how to do that schtick easily. (Superbowl,21 nights) Prince might want to talk to Dylan's people how he is able to get people to talk about his new material at the drop of a hat.

It's pretty clear why Prince contacted LA TIMES. He needs promotion that he can trust. Unfortunately for him, one press interview isnt going to cut it. He is so paranoid he won't grant any access to many journalists. Partially due to his ability to not cope with any challenging questions. Without that momentum of press the projects get killed before it gets started. Without a street team these records won't be acknowledged. And no amount of touring is going to get those records heard or bought. Prince isn't giving the people enough and that's just how the game is played. Most people are just going to rapidshare/megaupload/zshare/badongo his music and just keep it moving.

I like it -- he sounds young and fresh, and sounds like he had fun making that song!

It's got some classic Linn, some guitar, and probably the best use of the "voice box" effect to date . . .

I say go ahead and open up the site while we still interested!

The funny thing is, he's right. And "this where the party be" schtick only works for so long. No more partying songs about hopping around with pretty women trying to impress the clubbers and the socialites. You can do it if you can pull it off but if it's so obvious wreaking of desperation, it's going to be difficult for the audience not to see it. Man, this is so sad. The shit is played to the gills and the PUBLIC does take notice. Wall isn't dissing Prince, it's a public service announcement.

Chocolate Box is interesting. Kinda sounds like old-Prince mixed with a bit of contemporary Tricky and some mainstream pop-producer. I still give it a thumbs up. I'd have to hear the whole thing to truly evaluate it.

What makes the lyrics so utterly pathetic and laughable isn't that he's fifty years old, but the manner in which they're written and delivered. This fifty year old sounds like a fifteen year old girl trying to get her big break on some Nickelodeon sanctioned album/sitcom.
