The Work...and Prince's return to the web... Sooo....at the top of the page, it says we're allowed to talk about bootlegs, as long as we don't solicit others for them or discuss/provide links where this stuff can be found. So I hope it's okay to bring this up.
The Work is amazing. Besides the sheer size of it and the breadth of *new* material that's here, what I find most entrancing are the other versions of songs. Like the 30 minute version of 'I Would Die 4 U' or the extended version of 'Computer Blue' or the original 'Can't Stop this Feeling I Got' or 'We Can Funk.' Now, with Prince finally bringing a website back online, I started to think: How many of us would be willing to purchase either a subscription or actually pay the $.99 price per track, just to own much of this material? Clearly, there's the Warner factor, so this isn't something I expect to actually happen, unless there's some clause where a different version of a song can be sold (and this may be the case, when you look at 1999: The New Master). But, for all intents and purposes, let's assume it *was* possible. Would you purchase alternate versions of songs? Would you be willing to spend extra cash to get that extended verse version of 'The Beautiful Ones' in high quality? I would. I can't think of another artist I would do this for, not even Ben Folds, who I love almost as much as I do Prince. Because there's something magical about hearing this progression in his work, hearing how he created a song, worked through a song, and then continued to modify and play with these songs. I apologize if we're not allowed to talk about The Work for whatever reason. I rarely see people bring it up. But some of this material is awe-inspiring, which gets me to thinking about all the different versions of our favorite songs Prince must have floating around in the Vault. I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.

Absolutley I would pay for them. But again he ain't going to do it. And if he did they would probably be remixed and updated like he did with a couple of tracks on Crystal Ball.

I'd definitely stump up some cash too. One of my tracks of the moment is the alternate version of Starfish & Coffee, loving it more than the released one. I'd love to be able to give Prince some money for it, but for whatever reason, he's not interested.
This is partly why it's annoying when people say he's only interested in the $'s. Clearly that's not the case or he'd be selling everything, alternate versions, unreleased songs, live shows etc. RIP

Revelations 2.1 is better "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I don't think he's going to do it either. Not yet anyway, but there will probably come a time when he'll open the vault up.
But hopefully they won't be remixes versions. Because that's just like going back in time and changing something, creating another alternate timeline. Then we'd have ANOTHER version of the song to buy, this negating the desire in the first place.
