prince vs. eric clapton while i totaly admire eric clapton i always asking myself a question when i watch claptons solos why he never had guts to go out of his comfort zone.
i mean when you go to a eric clapton concert you always now the way he would play,very predictable but still very nice. except brasilian influanced reptile song he never tried anything diffrent. i can swear eric played his best guitar solos in cream and during derec and the dominoes phase. derec and the dominoes live at fillmoure 1970 contains amazing guitar playing by eric clapton,totaly diffrent then before and after that period. and what about eric claptons rhythm guitar work? don't get me wrong eric clapton is great in what he does but he never improved as a guitar player,he regresed. prince on the other hand while not an influental as eric was brave enough to experiment with his guitar playing , and when he takes a guitar you don't realy know what to expect . he can totaly suprise you by his choice of notes,his phrasing, dinamic feel when he solos and play rhythm . | |

Clapton was and IS a great guitarist in his own right ( he was out before Prince making music)
Prince IS a great guitarist in his own right. BOTH have pros and cons about them. Both could have learned things/ skills from each other. Case closed. Smurf theme song-seriously how many fucking "La Las" can u fit into a dam song

these topic is reserved for those who know something about these 2 artists I'm Sorry if your humour has got lost but in relation to the question posted Prince Vs Eric Clapton It is like comparing chalk and cheese and I like Chalk and I like cheese but not together. both artist's have evolved over time and are clearly following different paths but they are artists and i for one am not qualitfied to say which is better. Some of the stuff Eric did with Cream ....well you know,class Mtv unplugged was the best of the series bar none but if U insist On putting people Down well stand up and take a few blows yourself i think I hear the Britney Fans Sharping their Blades The right to free discussion is protected!! | |

Around 1990, Eric said Prince was his favourite guitarist, never read a quote on what Prince thought about Eric. So from that alone i'd imagine Eric would like to be Prince more than Prince would like to be Eric.
I know who i'd rather be, the guy that actually performs while playing the guitar, you know, doesn't just stand there looking like he's concentrating too hard. That is what stands Prince apart from these lesser Guitar-'Gods'. He's actually exciting and interesting to watch. no disrespect to Clapton, Knopfler, Satriani, Slash or any of the other so-called 100 greatest guitarists that always beat Prince in these stupid polls certain magazines do. | |

prince had negative coments about eric i can't rember the name of the gig but i know fellow orges know what im talking about,well on that gig there is one jame and during whole time prince is talking about eric clapton. its from 1994 ,it circulates on boots. also i know that prince said about his sound wasn't up to p funk standards,he didnt want eric claptons soundman. thatsa diss if you ask me. | |

In time, you'll find that one of the things that draws us to this site is the chance to have rational and interesting discussions about Prince, his music, and more. You're probably not aware of this, but this very subject has been discussed on here quite a few times. So, yes we can compare Prince to Eric Clapton, and we will, repeatedly, because it's interesting.
And you have the ignorance (not knowing) to say eric has not improved as a player and cannot play rhythem guitar? When I read thebanishedone's post I got the impression that he's quite familiar with Mr. Clapton's work and style, and that his opinion (and let's not forget that it's just an opinion) was borne of a certain amount of knowledge rather than ignorance.
Anyway, my opinion : I went to see Clapton in the late 80's / early 90's in the Royal Albert Hall. I had great respect for him; as previously mentioned his work with Cream was outstanding, so I was really looking forward to the concert. His solos were technically perfect, and you could easily appreciate his ability. But each one was too flawless, to the point of being monotonous, boring, bland. He never once stepped outside that comfort zone of boring solos in C. What I wouldn't have given for a bit of feedback, a few missed notes, anything to give his dull robotic performance a bit of life. By the end I decided I'd never bother to go see him again. I'll take a wobbly Prince solo over Clapton's every time. At least it has life. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP. | |

It's already been said, but the comparison of Prince and Clapton can't be made, and neither can any other, definitively.
All I can say on the subject is that I've argued that Prince is one of the best guitarists ever for 10 or 15 years easily. Probably more. On that same note, I'm sure Clapton fans have said the same, with just as much passion in their belief. | |

these topic is reserved for those who know something about these 2 artists But thebanishedone you always post threads like this. There's only ever a handful of people that reply to them too. I'm one, but have since learnt that if I don't agree with you then you shoot me down. Like you're doing again to other people. Prince is great, Eric is great. When someone really clicks with Eric they really like Eric. When someone really clicks with Prince they really like Prince. When I want to listen to one I listen to them and vice versa. I can compare them as guitarists and I feel that Eric is a unique and far more experienced, and influential, bluesman whereas Prince is a unique and far more experienced musician. When I want to listen to Bluesbreakers I don't reach for Lovesexy that's for sure. Stupid post as usual and the mods really should put a block on these "Prince vs [insert name that thebanishedone doesn't think is as good as Prince]" threads. Either that or I should just stop posting and go and read one of Imago's posts for some humour and intelligence [Edited 1/6/09 7:11am] | |

I clicked as I thought I'd read some interesting comments about both musisians, I really like all the muso threads and feel there arent enough of them there used to be loads!!! I can't add much i'm afraid simply that I like both of them although only Prince and Santana's playing has made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! Of topic is it an urban myth that Eric, stoned out of his tree actually forgot how to play? and so had to learn again or did this really happen? (dont flame me please, im genuinely interested to know) One minute they want peace……

where everyone would agree with me. i respect your opinion iloveuannie and i'm not going to get angry if your opinion is diffrent then mine,i make a topic for discussion.and yes we can compare prince with any guitar player in the world ,like you can compare alonso to lois hamliton i just don't like when people on org insult me without any real reason,only then i react. lewdew i will answer to you. never ever should i build any thread on ignorance .i have listen to a lot of eric clapton,i heard everything he ever recorded,even bootleg stuff. i even have rarity recordings for the second derec and the dominoes album. u can check "devils road " from that project with amazing clapton solo btw. eric clapton is a legend,when u think on electric guitar first one to come on your mine would be jimi hendrix or clapton. clapton was the first to use wah wah on record on tales of brave ulyssis. he was great guitar player in the cream,blind faith , derec and the dominos days, but i state the fact that most of his guitar playing during 70's,80's,80's was boring and sub standard. he played on auto pilot. but i must say that maybe it's because of his young wife or maybe because of the addition of derec trucks but from 2000 untill now days clapton's playing is on fire he recaptured his muse.check this amazing guitar solo on layla from 2004 guitar festival: http://www.youtube.com/wa...LCBtx0D3Oo never ever i have heard layla with solo as great as this one. | |

Clapton has much better tone IMO, and his playing is more beautiful, in the same way Stevie Ray could play a single note and it sounded like an opera singer.
I agree that his playing is not that inspiring, however, and his whole persona is a little bland compared to prince. But whatever, they're both great musicians My Legacy

Clapton would start of well, but by the fifth round Prince's stamina would kick in, and he'd start pounding him, then finish him off with a reverse round-house kick to the head. The high heel in the head would put Clapton on the floor, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10....it's all over!
