I thought the question was referring to how we'll follow him anywhere, and many of us have seen him MULTIPLE times in concert- a lot of times every night of the same tour in our area.
- SOME of us flew out to Vegas for 3121 and waited for hours... then there were the ones who made sure they got to London... - And we'll be out there again if there is a tour for these 3 albums... - How many of U have seen people wearing "Dirty Mind" tee-shirts that look like they cleaned their houses with them because they've worn them to EVERY show? **At Santana concerts, I've seen people there who saw him at Woodstock. Fans like these are with every artist/band. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

I like to think that I am somewhat of an expert on this question; Prince is my favorite musician and the Dead are my second favorite (band not musician).
There are a number of similarities. Many of which were mentioned by chocolate1. There are some key differences. I would say that the top priority every Prince fan has when going to a concert is to see the performance; Dead shows were much more about the atmosphere. While Chocolate1 was spot on, the rest of the posts showed a level of ignorance by those posting. First of all, most Dead fans are still alive, and many of them are pretty young. In fact, many of the Grateful Dead members are still alive, and they still tour and draw huge crowds. Sure there are some unsavory characters at the concerts, but if anyone thinks that beer and weed are "hippie" things, I would suggest not mentioning that to others out of fear of making a fool of yourself. I am not knocking anyone for not liking the Grateful Dead. I have a lot of music that I can't stand, mainly rap and country. Still, those who know nothing about the Dead and their music should consider some things. The one thing I always point out to people who know little about the Dead is that their music is perhaps the least offensive music around. Very little swearing, no explicit sexual lyrics, etc. I work in an office with other people, and I have the liberty to listen to music at my desk. I would never dare play Prince out loud out of fear that a sexual harassment suit would be inevitable. On the other hand, I know that there is no way that someone could take personal offense to anything in the Grateful Dead's music. I abdicated the throne in Ithaca, but now I am...

I've seen Santana 5 times, and I agree with the words in bold whole-heartedly in relation to his shows as well. I've seen Prince 29 times, but the first time I went to see Santana, I was blown away!-- there is much more of a "party" atmosphere. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. I don't think I have been to any non-Prince concert where the people were as pumped about the music as people are at Prince concerts. I think it is because Prince is simply the best.
That is great that you have been to 29 Prince shows. I have only been to 4, but I am strongly hoping that I will soon get a chance to go to a couple more. I abdicated the throne in Ithaca, but now I am...

Prince fans smelled better until the 3121 fiasco. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Well most artist have some devoted fans that follow them on tour and spend loads of money on all they're stuff. I thought Michael Jackson had the most devoted fans.

i would think so. especially since i've always felt that Prince has tried to emulate the Dead and their style of concerts/performances.
Plus one of Princes many sides has been a type of hippie/bohemian/gypsy...also a feeling hendrix emulated. Also many Dead fans are here on this site and in general appreciate Princes music. [Edited 1/10/09 19:45pm]

No, they aren't.
They are not allowed to share the music. Even if the music is freely downloadable the urls/torrents/etc cannot be shared if one believes the mr P people and some mods. And more of stuff like this. Compare that to a stream of tapes circulating with 99.98% of all shows for that other band. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.
