I don't mind if she opts not to listen to Prince now, she knows what good, funky music and usually turns to P at some point in the week. She came to the London o2 gigs with us and loved every minute of it... standing on the chair singing at he top of her voice. She has only just turned 12 and is quite proud that she knows who P is and what his music is like. It sgood to be a bit different from your friends and get the upper hand every now and again!! This is my daughter on our last day of hols.... June 7th - note the T-shirt Cute! Did you get it off the internet? Got it off P's last website...

Just a few minutes ago, he comes into my room listening to When Doves Cry and we started dancing to it together. Then Musicology came on and he says "This song's got a lot of UGH in it!"
I just thought it was funny that he would like Prince so much when practically no one his age knows who Prince is. Does anyone else have stories about kids they've managed to convert into Prince fams? My youngest is 10 and she likes some of Prince's music, Purple Rain (the edited movie), Dave Chappelle's skit, the Prince and Beyonce Grammy performance, and the Art of Musicology. I think it is certain songs, but she also likes SOTT. She plays Starfish and Coffee for my 1 yr old grand daughter after I showed them the video. She surprises me sometimes when I catch her singing Mr. Goodnight or Get on the Boat. One day I hope to take her to a show too....

That's right! I was 5 when I became a fan, without Mom's help, so this thread touches me and makes me so happy! The youth of today need some funk in their lives! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

My 15 yr old started with liking Kiss, now her list has grown to The Most Beautiful Girl in the World and Diamonds and Pearls, thats it! Rhythm floods my heart♥The melody it feeds my soul

Little Red Corvette, Let's Go Crazy, and Diamond & Pearls seem to be the general jumping points for younger listeners. Kiss too, good point on that one.

My little brother fell in love with the Guitar commercial. He was 11 at the time. He kept begging for it before it even came out...he was very upset when a video wasnt released because he kept asking for it on a cd.
Needless to say when Planet Earth came out his love for the song had died but he did get a cdr with the song on it anyways. However now he now always has the latest news on him..but i dont know who is he getting it from!?!? [Edited 1/25/09 22:00pm] Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Yesterday the "America" video came on VH1 Soul and my daughter had a friend over (10yrs old). She asked, "Is that Michael Jackson?" I laughed but replied "No, that's his funky cousin Prince who he named his sons after." We watched the video until he started giving the crowd that beautiful view of his laced bare bottomed
I really think/agree that Prince needs to have his own Guitar hero/Rock band package on Wii and PS3 and he would gain a whole new generation of fans.

[quote]"No, that's his funky cousin Prince who he named his sons after."
to bad he named his sons after his Grandfather Prince Albert Scruse and NOT Prince Rogers Nelson from Katherine Jackson's biography Childhood Born Katherine B. Screws on May 4, 1930 in Barbour County, Alabama, Jackson was the daughter of Martha ("Mattie") Upshaw and Prince Albert Screws [1]. Katherine's father changed his last name to "Scruse" and upon leaving Alabama, Katherine's name was changed to "Katherine Esther Scruse" when she was four. Katherine contracted polio as a child though she eventually made a full recovery from the disease. Because of the disease's effects, she walks with a noticeable limp. At four, her family moved to American Fork, Utah. - Wikipedia
