The once and future King I’m proud of prince. As a musician his legend is secure but like a true artist he is not content to rest on his past achievements and become a legendary recluse. In the face of the sky-high expectations of fans past and present he continues to create. The weight of his past accomplishments are an albatross that would stifle a lesser man. Luckily his ego and muse are so strong that he continues to create even in an atmosphere where many of his fans have become his detractors.
I see Prince as a dedicated craftsman much like Duke Ellington, Picasso, and Hitchcock. Artists who were extremely creative and exceptionally productive over many periods. A lifetime of work. Its rare that we as people are privileged to observe these artists as they create the culture and also reflect the culture over a lifetime. They are in essence their own little time machines that give us snapshots of history all reflected from the soul of one unique human being. Track Hitchcock’s career from silent film up to the 1970’s and you get one man’s interpretation of the times he lived and the personal preoccupations that colored his mind. Track Prince from “For You” to “Planet Earth” and you find an exquisite body of work that only will grow in resonance as it is freed from contemporary expectations of popularity and commerce. As a working artist Prince continue to change because he must. His life experiences continue to populate his music (sometimes camouflaged) and he continues to confront a world that continues to spin. Many fans/detractors can’t seem to grasp that they are only spectators of his journey not the pilots. Many seem convinced that their own limitations are Prince’s. Because you personally don’t value a song or album doesn’t mean it is without value. Prince will never be young again. You will never hear his voice in ignorance of the 100’s of verses you have heard sung by that voice. U will never hear another idea reflected thru a lyric that u can’t reference however obliquely thru another. What you will hear is a genius level musician who coincidently happens to be alive in your lifetime. Appreciate it while it lasts.

I belive that Prince will continue 2 surprise us with his intellectual perspective on music itself.
I often times do not believe that some people are aware of how smart Prince really is. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt...that Prince's music will spiritually uplift us throughout the rest of his career... I believe that Prince grows more conscious everyday of the musical scientific approach to tones and the spirit. I am also proud 2 be a Prince fan...It comes with perfect reason. Very impressive! Your thread reminds me why I joined the org.
Unfortunately there have been so many mindless and boring threads lately. I can deal with mindless threads if they're at least somewhat entertaining. Thanks Tricky! love the one who is Love!

Absolutely beautifully written. This is a sign that 2009 is gonna b 20yrs ago 4 me when I joined Prince's journey and wanted 2 listen 2 everything he put out.I began 2 question my admiration 4 him and his recent output 4 the past couple of years now but the title of this thread is my mantra now when it comes the subject of Prince.
This thread had 2 b written the way it was and I am glad some1 could put in2 words how I feel now about Prince. Every single member of this community should feel proud and watch this man plot his musical journey and we should all stick by him and want him 2 do and keep doing what he is put on this planet 4..... 4 all the haters and the narrow minds, hey people its ur loss.... 4 all the rest of us,we r the lucky one's..... 2009 is the year 4 us all, just listen 2 the tasters on the new site u know u want 2...so do it
