NPS has 2 all time classics - I can't quite believe it

I know this album has been talked about a lot on the org, but it is a bizzare production really. I agreed with most, that when it came out I thought it was total shite and really struggled with it. Still do with most of it.

Listening to it right now, there really aren't many better tunes than 'come on' and 'the one' ever delivered from our man. Both get you in the gut. Well they do me anyways.

Stick either of these on SOTT and we would still be wetting ourselves over these today!!

Tell me i'm wrong and i'll cry

I could never get into "The One," but I hear you nonetheless. For me, I agree about "Come On," and I would add "Mad Sex" and "Wasted Kisses" to the list of classics on there. The entire album is pretty damn good, if you ask me.

To a degree i agree with you, 'the one' is more than passable but 'come on' is certainly one the best tracks he produced in the 90's. Its reallly well arranged , love the jagged distorted keyboards and that slide guitar just elevates it. I think ill have a quick listen now!

Yeah, I've never really understood the hate, either. It's on about the same level as Planet Earth, for me. I like it on balance - even if it doesn't make me wet myself in delight. shrug

Don't forget the "Come On" Remix.

The Millennium here at last,
Fat lady sing when knowledge is past.
Chaka Khan on the treble, Larry G on the bass;
Makin' mozzarella while the haters make waste...

...I know you got a young man, but he can't do it like me.

"come on" is one of my all-time favorite prince songs, and for that reason alone, i can't rag on this album.

No argument on Come On, for sure. I really dug Shoo Bed Oop for some reason as well as wasted Kisses. Definitely an underrated album.

It's a random observation I suppose, but to refresh my memory on the NPS track listing I went to Amazon. Used copies are .55 How sad. lol

I like the techno-ish remix of Come On where he references his guitar being showcased at the Hard Rock Cafe.

The One, Come On, Wasted Kisses. Gems from an otherwise below-average album.

This album since about a year after its release has been one of my Top Ten Favorite Prince discs.

I can't fathom why it gets such bad press here, . . .Maybe too R & B but I think it has always been underrated.

"Come On" is pretty damn great, but "Wasted Kisses" is the crown jewel on that album.

Spotty as it is, some of NPS really isn't too bad.

This is the one CD I really can't get into. However The One is one of my favs and listen to quite often. Very good song. Also like someone mentioned above Shoo Be Doo was one of the catchiest and light hearted fun songs on the CD! And yes Wasted Kisses is a classic track but besides that the rest just seemed uninspired and forced somehow

Yeah, I just realized myself that "Come On" is still far better stuff than what he has been releasing lately - and I don't hate his recent material either, it's just... well, I guess you've all heard the typical criticism by this point.

At one time, I'd have agreed. The One, Come On (and Wasted Kisses) are definitely top-notch tracks on an otherwise shit album.

Over the years, though, The One and Wasted Kisses have increasingly bored me. Come On is still the shit, though.

Personally, I LOVE NPS! It is just all a matter of taste I suppose, but I love several jams on NPS. Found several great songs on that album!

Yeah, 'Come On' is fabulous. It really is up there with his great 80's work. It just has that cold atmospheric sound to it a'la Housequake.

You need to crank the bass up on the track and turn the lights down low..it a moody dirty groove and have yourself facing the windows...play at night

once you done that you'll love the track cool
Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..

I totally dig Come On and The One. It's a 1-2 punch right there! I also dig Wasted Kisses and Until U're In My Arms Again.

Album had a few good songs, but the "npg" flavored songs make it almost unbearable to hear all the way through

Mad Sex
Come On
Until You're in my arm
The One
Wasted Kisses

that is it
