I don't think membership should cost anything, only the content. |

I hope he doesn't charge a 'membership' fee.
He charged one before and it was supposed to be a lifetime membership. Along with the .drm encoded files he offerred that no longer work, charging for a membership again would be rather shitty. Wendy & Lisa and Radiohead released their songs and don't require a membership fee for it. And their songs are DRM-free. The model seems to work for them.

I hope he charges a crapload. Fewer memberships means a better shot at the front row.
Yeah, I said it. I'm greedy like that - and I make no apologies. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

a membership fee would scare off less rabid fans so i don't think
that would be a very good idea. best would be to have an open site with a store section where any and every person can have a look at what's on offer and buy it. a restricted area within the site, with access to exclusive stuff like extra downloads, premium seating at shows etc could possibly be accessible through paying a fee although even that is rather a weird concept given other band's and artists sites almost never work on such a basis. on the other hand i also think it's stupid of people to keep asking if anyone knows wether their old username and password will still be valid. we all know that when the npgmc folded something was amiss and we never got a good explanation. however, it is apparant that whatever fee we dished out and whatever privileges we had because of that are now completely null and void. how can anyone expect that 6 years down the line all of a sudden your username and password will grant you some kind of exclusive access? geez people, wake up. i wouldn't even know what my username was back then or if i'm still using the emailadress i used to sign up to that site. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I was never a member of the npgmc but I did register for 3121 when it was up and running. Those who were previous npgmc members, were the only ones that got the codes to the presale o2 tickets. How much was the npg music club fee? NPGMC was $100 a year... That's how much I paid. Then they lowered it to $25. and my friend registered his whole damn family to get tix for Musicology! I won't be purchasing any music to download that I can't even save to my computer and play later. Prince got us with that one with his NPG site, shut down the site and can't play the music that we purchased, what knind of crap was that. Got me once Prince, won't get me on that one again.

It would be great if it were free. I will NEVER complain about free stuff, especially with Prince but the only reason why I wouldn't be mad if there was a fee is just so that it won't be hard to purchase good tickets for the show. I want a good seat and I don't like the idea of someone who hasn't thought of Prince in 20 years but then deciding, "let me go to that Prince show on May 6th" being in the front row when it should be me or anyone else who's a diehard and will most definately enjoy the show. I'm sure it may sound conceited but it's the truth. When it comes to the shows, the term "membership has it's previleges" has never rung more true. I'll be fine with it either way. Just my I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Hopefully, people were members of the old NPGMC will have automatic membership (since NPGMC was lifetime) - although I doubt it -- at the very least he should use that old membership list to give access rights to previously downloaded songs and as a contact list for upcoming music.

I tested my old username and password from NPGMC on 3121.com and it worked. I hope the same thing happens again with this Lotus Flow3r site. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I remember when 3121.com came out, I got an email about it before I registered so I know they kept the information from NPGMC

Interestingly enough I registered the very 1st year and paid the lifetime membership and the following year never had to pay again per year.. My handle and password worked till the very end...

Purchase. Burn to CD. Rip to iTunes. Save CD. Best of all worlds. Still mystifies me why folks didn't back up their purchases.

How could u not burn copies of the music u purchased online, esp. from a Prince site that had the songs password protected. U never know when P is gonna change his mind and shut the site down. Always have a backup copy just in case. Don't u want to come , 3121. It's gonna be so much fun, 3121. That's where the party be, 3121. Y'all can come if u want to, but u can never leave!
