The Only Genre Of Music Prince Refuses 2 Acknowledege Wouldn't it be cool, if Prince dedicated an album, or a few tracks in the form of heavy-metal, death-metal, or Nu-metal?
The only songs which has a hint of this genre, is 'Bambi?', but its not metal. It would be interestin if he tried, it could make him appeal 2 a new market. Something like, SlipKnots, 'My Plague',Mansons, the 'Beautiful People', or commercial Nu-metal of Linkin Park? Can i ask if any1 knows y he hasn't even experimented, or even made a track of this genre? i think it may be cuz hes not infulenced by any metal bands? Sam Prince 2010 Good Luck for Future & Tour

Did you hear "Sex in My Bones" by the Funky Baldheads? In fact most of their live show was rap-metal.

Prince will not even acknowledge the Black album or play any of it live (besides 2nigs now and then), he is just into perfection ---------------------------------

OMG! how can metal be trashy?
This music is most rebellious, opinionated, expressive and great 2 listen 2. The Smashing Pumpkins & Nivarna, were the foremost and successful bands in the 90s. Look at the scene now, it is superb, with most outrageous bands like, SlipKnot,System Of A Down, Manson, e.t.c. Its more purposeful than the crap dats around 2day, expressin real life and not crap like, 'today i had 3 girls, and finished it of, popin a bottle of crystal. They talk bout the same crap in every damn song. These are REAL bands, who make good music, SlipKnot sold 6-7 mill. of there 2nd album, so u can't say there trash. I agree he should do a loud, nasty metal CD. He has acknowledged the genre by stating he likes Rage Against the Machine
and playing Zeppelin. I think he doesn't want to alienate the fan base by focusing on such a focused genre...Put out a double cd---one pure bass heavy FUNK--2nd pure guitar heavy SPUNK!

I think the ending of Darling Nikki goes a bit into metal.

Bluegrass? (Maybe that's not a genre just a section of another: Country)

I would say the closest he's come to metal would be:
Darling Nikki Loose and maybe Chaos & Disorder. It's a stretch though What about country music? I don't hear him play that. Some classify Sometimes it Snows in April as country, but I don't. The only other thing I see as country would be his 15 second country song that he did on Muppet's Tonight. Yeah I was going 2 say that. Funny thing is, heavy-metal' hardcore fans won't admit that its a heavy-metal track. My botha is saying that "He(Prince) is trying 2 hard to pull the heavy-metal style in some of his songs". Samblue: -The Endorphinemachine -The 1st song from The 2nd CD of Crystal ball(4got the title) -Da Bang -Chaos & Disorders-The LP in general have that influnece Hell, I bet that the vault is full of 'em. Ask some1 how follow his vault work and they'll tell you the details. BTW I agree with you, Prince is mighty cool when he pull that style in his shit.

If you haven't heard the influences of heavy metal in his music than I don't think you're listening really. Can anybody say "The Cross"? Even "U Got The Look" seems to be influenced by metal but that does not mean it's a heavy metal song. I think he has acknowledged it. And if he has not maybe its because he does not like it. On the Chaos and Disorder cd there seems to be a little country influence too.

In the Guitar Player magazine interview from 1999, Prince was asked was excited him the most about guitar nowadays and he said: "Habibi and that Metal opened the doors for harder edged records." (paraphrased, but it's close).

I've always thought that 'Temptation' from ATWIAD is the nearest Prince has come to 'metal'.
Take another listen to it, with that thought in mind.

They are more so known for their heavy rock songs than their bluesy arty stuff. I do "hear" their other styles as I have all their material , not just what the passing observer would detect. The fact that Prince chose to play "Whole Lotta Love" , and smoked it ,as well as stroked it acoustically means he acknowledges both aspects of Zep's potential (and his).

I don't think anything could potentially alienate his fan base as much as TRC's lyrics. I think most of his fans would be interested in hearing a metal themed album. I, for one, would prefer it to the piano ONA album. Good suggestion on the double LP! [This message was edited Thu Nov 28 17:48:00 PST 2002 by divo02]

As some have pointed out, Prince has let metal influence him, although probably to a lesser extent than almost any other major musical genre.
Electric Chair - a fusion of hard rock, metal and funk Da Bang - That's some freakafied blues metal Bambi - As you mentioned, touches on that, especially when he plays it live The Cross - crescendos into heavy metal; again, especially many live versions Endorphinmachine - Original version, particularly the version he played live on VH1 Batdance - A piece of pop studio wizardry whose main influence is heavy metal. I've heard Trent Reznor speak highly of this one. Also on disc 3 of his new live box set he's freaking the f*ck out of his guitar like he’s simultaneously conjuring the spirits of Carlos Santana and Eddie Van Halen, especially on "Joy and Repetition" and "We Do This," where the power and energy of his guitar reach ear-splitting nirvana. But his metal solos are fused with such warmth, soul and blues that they take me places where no guitar metal god has ever, or probably could ever. Really Prince rarely does any musical genre straight, so I don't expect he'll be doing a heavy metal song anytime soon. But then again, I don't expect him to write a blues song anytime soon either, but he'll continue to reference both in minor and major ways in his compositions. I think he just gets too bored coloring within the lines. Thank god for that. Brendan

Britney Spears and the likes, plus those horrible boybands sold numerous amounts of albums, yet I call them trash. Sales don't decided if something's good or bad. It just decides if the marketing plan is working. And Prince doing metal (or something close to it) yes I'd be very interesting in hearing him do that. He should release a great guitar album, with loud and fierce solo's, maybe a guitar cover album. Whole Lotta Love is a nice start. Plus I'd like to hear him do Queen's Hammer To Fall (just because I like that song).
