Sitting in a pub with my friends girlfriend. I am aware that she has bad taste in music so I normally steer clear of the subject.

However this particular day the topic of going 2 concerts came up, as I have just received confirmation regarding my Red Hot Chilli Peppers tickets. Anyway, my friends girlfriend (who shall remain nameless for her own protection) remarks that she is going 2 2 concerts soon.

I reluctantly ask who she is going 2 c. Excitedly she replies 'Blue and Ronan Keating'.

After spitting my beer across the table and almost choking with laughter I try 2 b diplomatic. I reply,'each 2 there own and all that but c'mon... they are not really concerts. Just shows for the under 12's.'

Her response is what really f**ks me off! She said, 'Ha! U can talk... u went 2 c Prince! Dunno how u can call that a concert!?'

Rrrraaa!!!

Her last comment alone shows she simply knows nothing about 'MUSIC' at all!!!

Does any1 have any advice on how 2 deal with people like this? I try 2 ignore them but they just don't go away. HELP! It makes me so ANGRY!

Much to my amazement I met a guy at work today who was a Prince fan!!! This hardy ever happens to me, he knew about the Dawn Experience party in london, and went to Hammersmith and cafe de paris. Then we had a discussion about the Live CD and how Rainbow Children worked really well live...it was so refreshing...normally I avoid telling anyone I like Prince, because of all the grief you get.

don't get me wrong... i got no problem with her or any1 4 that matter disliking Prince.

but it's her constant insistance that the likes of Blue, Ronan Keating, Shakira, Martine McCutchance (however u spell it), Shania Twain and Westlife are quality musicians, whilst taking a pop at Prince, Chilli Peppe... well any talent really.

She's 26 4 goodness sake!!!

Martine McCutcheon, oh my god now any remaining respect for her has left me...

People who I talk to lately have warmed up to Prince in the last year or so. I don't know why, since they haven't heard any of his new music, I'm sure. It's probably because he bought a house here in Toronto last year, so people here don't make stupid comments about him so much. So if he buys a house in all major cities in the world, people may like him more...

And I think u're friends girlfriend isn't into music, she just likes looking at hot guys who shake their booties on stage. I don't think Prince is hot, and he doesn't shake his booty much on stage anymore. So, by her definition of a concert, ONA wasn't much of a concert. To people who love music, it was a mind-blowing experience.

Just introduce her to male stripper clubs. She'll think they have the best concerts in the world! And they probably play the same music as she likes too.

I know exactly what you mean. I have the joy of listening to MTV all day - no really, you can all have the perk - as they play such rubbish. It makes me sick when people I work with all go crazy over bands like Blue and S Club.

The cure I have for people like your friends girlfriend is laughing in my head. You can't tell them to listen to Prince's music as they have no music appreciation. So I just humour them in my sick ol mind and think what a sheltered life they lead.

It is Sad isn't it ? I have this problem with guys alot. Well,Prince is a Real Musician and he's not some BoY Toy from MTV Who shakes his Groove thing or like those Bozos on those dating shows on UPN or WB. If you like Real Music with Substance and not Manufactured POP well then you are gonna Love Prince cause he is the Real Deal.

you have my sympathy.They have the radio on all day at work and all it is is top40 crap all day long.If i take the bus home, i always get sat behind some knob with a personal stereo blasting 'Trance' or some other crap with no substance.

i just want to slap these people who think they are listening to anything of musical merit, when they plainly aren't.
