So I was randomly thumbing through my iPod and listening to songs, and I came accross Dinner with Deloris .


This thing is an understated tour de force of a great song in the vein of Cream.
It doesn't overdo it's elements (tune, lyrics, vocals, guitar solo) much the same way cream did, and it's easy on the ears to boot.

I guess the first time I heard it I scratched my head ... But then again, I dismissed COME altogether as a commercial 'filler' followup to the astounding, chaotic /Symbol album.

Now I realize the error of my ways.

This tune doesn't draw attention to itself, but it totally satisfies when it wants too. Kind of like that slutty little girl in French class who didn't speak much but all the guys loved her cause she gave a mean blowjob.

3) I was listening to Prince on my ipod (out loud) at work the other day, and a woman came in... she's a musician of some sort, I think. Anyway, she said "What's this funk?" and I said "Prince." She said "do you have Dinner With Delores? I love that song! That's totally my shit!"

i love this song. it's playful, a good mood tune. i'd never heard that about it being metaphor for WB but that fits in a way. i always just heard the lyrics more literally, and it's still pretty funny.

sometimes when i listen to prince music i get the feeling there are songs which he crafted over time, and songs which he just sits down and writes. i think dinner is one that just came out. maybe while he was eating a sandwich or something.

wouodn't it be cool if he'd write about his songs, share insights about how and why they came to exist?

It was alright for me didn't rock my world. In fact being the only standout song on "Chaos and Disorder" I ended up just throwing the cd in the garbage not long after purchase.

This is the only song that I really liked on Chaos and Disorder.

This falls into the same category as Space and Glam Slam...musically I enjoy but lyrically I wish he would done a second draft or something.
