I'd be happy if Prince and the Revolution Live, 3 Chains O' Gold, and Gett Off (video single) were released on DVD. That's better than crappy VHS

Yeah, the Purple Rain Blu-Ray really looks amazing. It's the first time I really started to feel like I was in 1984 all over again.

Blu-Ray can't play on normal DVD players, but normal DVDs can play on Blu-Ray players (backward compatible).

Most Blu-Ray players also have "up-converting" which interpolates higher definition out of normal DVDs.

what f**ks me off about it though is the quality of some of the special features. The When Doves Cry video looks like sh!t compared to the DVD special edition that my PS3 could upscale. The movie itself looks better, as do the 'new' docos that were done but I'm just pissed that I traded in the special edition DVD Purple Rain for the Bluray and the videos look better upscaled on dvd than they do straight from blu-ray. It doesn't make any kind of f**king sense!

I just bought the 20th Anniversary rerelease of Purple Rain (and coinciding rereleases of UTCM and GB) a few years ago so I'm not in the market yet for a new one. The 30th Anniversary copy (?) -- 5 years away!

Questions!:

I started a thread about the PR Blu-Ray before, and was attacked by idiots who didn't even have the Blu-Ray. So maybe one of you kind folks can help me out.

There are numerous 'goofs' in the sound mix of the Special Edition Purple Rain dvd - these goofs are not evident in the original dvd release, or the VHS. A few of them are:

*Before Jungle love, when Jerome taunts Prince backstage, you can hear him say "so se-" two seconds before the actual line, "so sexy", is delivered.
*When Francis L is going to commit suicide, the sound effect of him cocking the gun is missing from the audio.
*During Purple Rain, at the 5:38 mark, the timbre of the entire song changes drastically (this might've been a problem with the film itself; not sure, and I don't have my older dvd or VHS anymore).

So... are these goofs evident on the Blu-Ray? If someone would actually reference their Blu's and check it out, I'd really appreciate it!

So I checked out those parts on my Blu-ray copy played on my PS3 and none of those 'goofs' are present. I didn't notice any change during the song Purple Rain and you can definitely hear the gun cocking and Jerome only says "So sexy" once when he touches his cheeks.

EDIT: (actually, looking back at my dvd just now, I see that the "so se-" ghost line comes even before Morris says his "Why don't you stay a while" bit. Either way, I'm sure you would have heard it on the BluRay if it were on there at all. Thanks again!)
