If Prince signs a contract with a major chain to distribute an album, how are singles delivered to radio for airplay? Who's responsibility is that? Is such a deal in any way effective if one wants radio airplay?

His last 3 CDs were distributed by major labels, and basically no airplay was received, so it seems the potential for single distribution and promotion won't be affected one way or the other.

Whether its Elvis in the 50's, the Beatles in the 60's Fleetwood Mac in the 70's, Prince in the 80's, Nirvana in the 90's, ...and umm i cant think of anyone that really stood out in the 00's, but a great song is a great song regardless of when it was created. And as big a Prince fan that I am, I cant say that his current music classifies as great.

Great to see someone stick their neck out, well said!...come on Prince make us proud once more.
At my age me old ticker cant take much more of this mediocrity, come on Prince dance!....remember!.. like U used ta.... wink

People still listen to radio? lol
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

After the Super bowl & after the Coachella gig, there was a lot of buzz by non Prince fans. Young & old were talking about a great performance they had heard about or seen, people wanted to know more about him, YouTube videos were pulled endlessly. Blogs everywhere were talking about him, there was a buzz just like in back in the day.
Payola couldn’t buy that, connections couldn’t buy that, if he wanted Radio airplay, you do it by creating this organic buzz, by being badass in a major way.
If he wanted airplay, a more savy artist would have released "Creep" or "All Along the Watchtower", that's how you get airplay.

I think "Crimson and Clover" has the potential to break through and give him

that elusive comeback hit. It should appeal to several different demographics,

young and old. I would prefer that a big hit would be one he wrote himself, but

this may open the door for follow-up singles to get airplay. You really only

need one huge hit to act as a springboard.

Yes, they do. For minorities, radio is a powerful marketing tool to their communities.

I'm excited. I don't think rock/pop/ac radio will give Prince's music a chance. Sadly, no matter how good Crimson and Clover is, programmers love to play the race card on black rock stars.

As for "Here I Come" and "(There'll Never B) Another Like Me", I can hear Urban AC stations testing it, but not sure if the audience will go for it. "Future Baby Mama" and "Call My Name" did extremely well at Urban AC radio, but standard Urban formats will not touch this. It doesn't sound like shit-hop and he is not tatted and wearing his pants hanging off of his ass (like Jamie Foxx is trying to do).

I totally agree with u about "Crimson and Clover', but the big powers at these media companies (Clear Channell, Cox radio, etc.) will not allow it. I pray these barriers get broken, but I can't forsee it at this point.

Now, I'm sure Prince has thought of this and maybe has reached out to these people to try to get his music played on these formats. Maybe they are among the people he has invited over to preview the new project.

You are right and am aware of these barriers that exist in the radio world now.

Not sure Prince can beat the system but inviting these radio execs., etc. over

indicates that Prince is more aware of these barriers now (if he wasn't before)

and has made some sort of conscious effort to reach out to some of these

people. I also agree with the race card being played when it comes to black

rock stars. Rock radio has never wanted anything to do with Prince. Don't

see this changing unless their listeners demand it. Only problem is rock music

listeners (most of them) don't seem to want to have much to do with him either.

He has much more respect as a rock musician with fellow musicians, but that's

about it. Even after the Superbowl and Coachella performances. Even though he

did open some eyes for a short period.

This is so sad, let's not play the race card. I could not possibly be the quality of the music could it?

Let's hope so. Because from what I've heard the quality is preety good right now.
