The only reason I purchased my first computer was because I wanted to join Prince's NPGMC and get access to his downloads and videos and stuff, before that I never even knew this stuff was available to fans. Obviously once I had access I found a hell of a lot more things available online other than from the club. To make a long story short Prince is the one that started it all so now that he has changed his mind and hates everything about it unless HE makes it available nobody's suppose to get anything??? That's Bullshit..

i agree.

the downloading of bootlegs is something else entirely. being hypocritical, in that sense, would be condemning the people who download illegal music then downloading the music yourself.

but there are some people who have no problem downloading music off the internet without paying for it because they don't see it as a crime, or feel like they are harming anyone, which could lead to >>>>> downloading Prince's music despite his wishes.

Thanks for siding with me. I wish this thread was not so upsetting to me, but I can not stand it when people improperly use a term, and that is what is happening here. I provided a clear definition of what it means to be a hypocrite, yet people throw it aside and continue their mangling of the English language. Perhaps people should try and find the correct terms. There is no disagreement on this; the dictionary describes what a hypocrite is and what was described by the original post DOES NOT, I repeat DOES NOT fall into that category. Why is that so hard for everyone to grasp. Loving Prince, loving his music, loving all of his music and then illegally downloading it is not a hypocritical action. Please, find a more suitable term!
BTW, for a while it was one of Princes wishes that people do not buy the perfectly legal music that was produced under contract with Warner Brothers. I realize that it is a bit different due to the legal aspect, but should someone be considered a "hypocrite" (under the perverted use of the term) if they listen to WB produced music?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the rights to WB produced music goes back to Prince after 35 years.

Now, now - we've discussed this. The younger generation gets very upset when they are not addressed in a suitably soothing and molly-coddling sort of way.

Don't mess with their view of the world. They can't handle it. no no no!

well, for what it's worth - I have thirteen Prince records, all of which I've purchased on CD... I love checking out music on Youtube before I buy, but I don't download entire albums (or individual mp3s) ...

Having said that, I almost never buy CDs any more. I did all my CD-collecting back in the early 90s. Nowadays, I just listen to my old favortes! biggrin

okay... in my opinion.... there is little difference in making a copy of those new songs with their very, very, very compressed codecs and making copies of songs on tape from the radio back in the boom box days. When you make an MP3 of an MP3 it only gets compressed worse... you know a crappy copy of a crappy copy. I'm not going to say... "Woo hoo, I have some hard to hear copies of P's new songs that have almost no bit depth and a very chopped up frequency, so there is no way I would pay money for his CD." How stupid is that.

These songs have only wet my appetite. I want the full 9 on this. I want a proffessionaly built web site with killer graphics and videoes, and I want the CD with its jacket, and I want to rip my CD to MP3's and put it on my walk man, and listen to the CD on my car stereo, and sing along and make it all sound like shit.
We are all so full of doody here

I do not care what your opinion is. I care that you are improperly using a very loaded term. Hypocrite is not something that should be thrown around unless it is used correctly. I am sorry, but you are not using it correctly. There is no debate there.
The essence of your opinion is that it is not right for people to illegally download Princes music. I have at no time argued with that. If I said that in my opinion 3X3=10, I would be mangling the facts, not stating an opinion. By grossly misusing a word, and then ignoring the facts when they are placed before you, you are essentially arguing that 3X3=10.

Actually, that is not the essence of my opinion. My opinion is that people who are fammy fam yet illegally download Prince's music are full o'shit. It's just like those people who are way negative about Prince yet still buy his music or go to his shows. They are full o'shit, too.

And I really don't give a damn if you don't like how I am using the word.

It is hypocritical to talk about how much you love Prince and yet would steal from the guy.

I'm wondering, if that's the case, wouldn't the majority of us be hypocrites in here? Im just trying to understand this better.

I would guess so too. I'm thinking morally I don't see it as a bad thing because I'm willing to pay for anything he officially releases anyway.
