Online) – With plans like these, who has time to party like it's 1999? Prince says he is releasing three albums—likely through an exclusive deal with a major retailer—in 2009, including an electro-pop effort tentatively titled MPLSOUND and Lotus Flower, tracks from which were featured on L.A. indie station 103.1 FM this year. He has been experimenting with "new ways of recording," the quirky Purple One told the Los Angeles Times in a recent interview at his Hollywood Hills home, during which he also talked up new tunes by his protégé, Bria Valente, and mentioned that he didn't vote in November because of his religion. Meaning, Prince said, he didn't cast a ballot for Barack Obama, nor officially come out on either side of Proposition 8, the gay marriage ban that controversially passed last month. "I have friends that are gay and we study the Bible together," Prince, who's been a Jehovah's Witness for most of the last decade, said in reference to some remarks he made about gay marriage in a November New Yorker interview. Remarks that made some people wonder whether the dapper rock star wasn't quite so liberal as his eyeliner and frock coats would have us believe.

Everybody has a least one gay friend especially in show business, that still doesn't mean he feels gays should get married to each other. [Edited 1/1/09 6:45am]

More detail for ya where he clarifies himself even more: http://prince.org/msg/7/293342?&pg=1
I really didn't see the need for all the trash talk and hatin and throwin toward Prince on the Prop 8 thing. As expected, in his type of career, he'll encounter and even work wit gay people almost all the time, so I knew he couldn't have possibly hate gays as people claimed was the case because of his "alleged" statements. Studyin the Bible and spendin time wit people u hate??? Doesn't make common sense, now does it crybabies? I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

Just because someone has gay friends doesn't mean they believe they should have equal rights. I have no problem with people who are religious believing what they believe. Just stop trying to point out others' faults when you clearly have your own.

But we don't know what Prince is doing with his gay friends when he reads the bible with them. Maybe they wanted to read the bible with him. Why try to read into stuff? It is what it is. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Oh fuck! Anyway, this topic is so gay. I'm tired of this shit.

Based on some of the descriptions of his home decor and some of the pictures in the 3121 CD booklet, maybe he should quit reading the bible with his gay friends and go with them on a much-needed trip to Pottery Barn, instead. "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

Methinks "gay friends" = "Mr. Hayes".
I can't imagine that Prince has ever had many friends outside his musical circle, and I don't think that's changed. I don't think he's meeting people out in clubs and inviting them over to his house. "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

Oh fuck! Anyway, this topic is so gay. I'm tired of this shit. Me too. It's so old but I'm glad he said something about it so that it can hopefully be settled. Something tells me it probably won't be that simple but a gay man like me can dream right? I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

What makes U think Mr. Hayes is gay? He's married to a woman, and has been for a number of years. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. Even though in today's world, being married to someone doesn't necessarlily mean that they aren't gay, I can agree that Mr Hayes is not gay. I met him in October and I didn't get that vibe from him at all. Family recognizes family and that wasn't family. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". Well, what he thinks about gay marriage overall is obvious regarding his religion, which doesn't necessarily mean he is not liberal. He accepts homosexual people and knows that they are human beings as well, but for himself he thinks that gay marriage is something this world doesn't need. I can't understand all the fuss about it; someone is against gay marriage, so what? I bet everybody has their own reasons for their opinion and just because Prince is convinced gay marriage should not be allowed doesn't mean he's a baaaaad baaaad person. He IS bad, but just not that bad

#1- wearing or not wearing makeup doesn't determine a person's sexuality.
#2- There are alot of females that don't wear makeup some are gay some aren't. #3- Men having been wearing makeup in Hollywood and other entertainment circles for many many years because stage lights pale a person. Doesn't make the men who wear it gay. #4- alot of staight men wear jewelry, chains, earrings, some wear 2 earrings. Doesn't make those men gay. So ur eyeliner arguement is no good. i will agree that people in America should vote, but i personally feel that famous people shouldn't have to disclose their vote to the public, if that public is going to attack and insult them for their vote. Those of us out here in the general public enjoy the freedom of voting without the whole world knowing what that particular vote is and don't have to endure rude people attacking us and insulting us when others don't agree with a vote. SO i say to u , lets give people the right to make votes without heckling them. Maybe then they would vote. [Edited 1/1/09 8:47am]

I still don't know nor care what he thinks on the issue. I care about the music and if it's any good for me to jam with. I hope we really get 3 new CD's this year. That's my concern. As long as he's doing his job, then I'm satisfied. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Very true. Back in the day I am sure some slave owners became friends with their slaves, but that doesn't mean they'd set them free.

I know enough about the JW faith to respect his stance about homosexuality. I am glad that this new article was posted, giving more clarification to the NYT article. it just saddened me to think that he was against equal rights for gays and that some of his fans had no problem with that either. Some here even giggled at the fact gays can't marry. That is all. I have different feelings about Prince now but that has more to do with my personal growth and less about him. I am grown up enough to say his latest projects have not done much for me, but I await to see if I can catch a spark again. No matter how I feel about him as an artist, I will always appreciate that he's given me music I can't live my life without.

I look at it like this: Just as I cannot separate the music from the person in some cases, it would be wrong of me not to do it just because it is my favorite artist. I dunno, Cam. Sometimes I wish I knew nothing of Prince's personal life.

I told ya long ago that PRINCE had GAY Friends so this COMMENT was REALLY STUPID about him HATIN. Nobody in HOLLYWOOD can NOT have some FRIENDS or BUSINESS associates who aren't Gay cause it's an ARTISTIC world. I'm glad he CLEARED this Up. I also don't THINK he would VOTE JEHOVAH or NOT. He does UNDERSTAND that his RELIGION ALWAYS has DOGMA about being GAY or some sort of SEXUAL BEHAVIOR OUTSIDE OF MARRIAGE. I really DON'T UNDERSTAND the JEHOVAH'S STANCE on COMPUTERS and also Phone SEX because really NOBODY is getting HURT people aren't even touching so why is it so WRONG? However , they say,,,,the DANGERS of CYBER SEX and PHONE SEX. Not EVERYONE is going to be CELEBATE in this WORLD and I don't BELIEVE PRINCE is CELEBATE EITHER. I think he's VERY CAREFUL,but CELEBATE Na...Unless he just CHOOSES to Be ALONE...

That's some kooky definition of friendship you got there! Would you still be OK with that sentiment if the word 'gay' was substituted for the word 'black'?

He's NEVER been ANTI-GAY and that was TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT. Also like Purple Cam said I DON"T BELIEVE MR HAYES is GAY. I think he had a GIRLFRIEND at some show they did. How can ANYONE think PRINCE was ANTI-GAY RIGHTS? I do BELIEVE he is AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE because he doesn't REALLY believe in MARRIAGE at ALL.
