Chris Martin on MJ/Prince Just saw Chris Martin/Coldplay being interviewed on UK T4 channel and he was asked about how their last album was based/heavily influenced by 'Off the Wall', think he referred to its 'percussive structure' Martin then said He’s (MJ) pretty much musically unrivalled other than...Prince(!) (asshole interviewer winced as if asking yeah?, Martin then affirmed his opinion).
It’s always cool when P gets the nod from other musicians. Sorry if this has already been discussed as the programme could be a repeat.

Hmm. I don't think the interviewer was wincing at Martin's props to Prince. I think he was surprised by his opinion that MJ is musically unrivaled by the legions of musicians who write songs and play instruments and are far more talented from the standpoint of pure musicianship.
To say that MJ is musically unrivalled by anyone other than perhaps Prince, is to say that MJ is a better songwriter and musician than the likes of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Carlos Santana, etc., etc., etc. -- [Edited 12/30/08 5:44am] "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

Chris Martin earlier this year also gave props 2 Prince regarding Princes residency at the 02 last year, cos he was asked whether Coldplay would do a residency there and he said he didnt think they could do anything like Prince had done with 21 nights!!!!

Chris Martin is sometimes annoying, but I think Viva La Vida is one of the best albums of 08. Great stuff.
