"Come" ... An underrated masterpice?

Hey all,

eye gave the "Come" album another listen 2nite. eye can't believe what a FANTASTIC album this is!!!

Prince was right, "Time is a trick." When it first came out, eye was a 14 year-old and couldn't c or acknowledge the brilliance; but now eye can say: This album is Prince's greatest acheivement of the '90s, topping prince and "The Gold Experience" with it's brute in-ur-face style.

This record is great from head 2 toe ... the whole record is tight! eye hear some of u asking, "What about the song 'Solo'?" Yes, it is the weakest track, but it's still haunting and impressive in my book.

So give "Come" another spin ... u'll thank me later! wink

It's a really Wonderful album. All the songs fit so well together and end in a Perfect Finish ... Orgasm.

It could have been very better imo (it lacks "interactive" at least), I think that Orgasm was a bit silly , I've heard that there's a better, shorter version somewhere...

I have 2 agree that it's VERY underrated.

When I first bought it, however, I was blown away.
I turned off all the lights, lay down in the middle of the floor and pushed 'PLAY'. I never looked back since...

From the start, u're sucked in2 a seductive trance with the bass drum and the beats.

The sweet sax half-way thru the title track mesmerizes, 4 it's unexpected.

Then it morphs in2 "Space"...one of the best trax Prince has made in my humble opinion. Like "17 Days", it's sexy, seductive, yet has a bit of a dance beat going.
= the best of both worlds...and space*

"Pheromone" is a digital erection that prompts the dark side of us. It taunts us.

The whole album sets a mood, a theme, which is constant through out.

Once u put this on, folks'll KNOW what's on ur mind*

Love heart

True...it´s very underrated. Come is one of my favorite albums, definatly his best work from the 90s.

Good to hear some fellow orgers share my opinion.

I wish that Gold/Come and segments of Glam Slam Ulysses Should have stayed together in the original Interactive Experience.

[pre:1:ad780d9ec2]Come

(When U) When I lay U down I'm gonna tell U what 2 feel
(Come)
(Don't U) Don't be surprised if I make U my daily meal
(Come)
(Lickin' U inside) Lickin' U inside, outside
(Outside) All sides (All sides), up and down (up and down)
(Come)
With my tongue in the crease, baby I go 'round
When I go down, down, down, (Come) down, down, down, da-da-down

Come

Like a (Come) splendid, open ended
Celibate friend (No more will U cry), pretending
Not 2 know (Come) it (know it) when I blow it (blow it)
In your eyes (Here's a reason why)
Like a strawberry (Come), chocolate
Fender jazz, mashed potato, fuzztone (Come)
All over your thighs

Come

It's no wonder there's a puddle there
Holding it in 4 so long
U know U can let it go
It won't be wrong
(Come)
It's just U and me baby
Tonight and 4ever more
(Come)
U should do that baby
Fuck it

LOOSE! is amazing,so underrated ...that guitar solo is so simple but it kicks my ass every damn time i listen 2 it,i never tire of it.
Space is a song i only got hooked on recently,so sexy & smooth, perfect summer song.
Come...perfect!
Solo...haunting,beautiful,sexy,perheps Prince's most underrated song i think.

Orgasm...wild til i learnt that its taken from 2 samples...but it does sound wild.

whole album is brilliant, tho Race isnt a song i have gotten hooked on yet.

Wow, you won't hear me saying that. I don't think Solo is the weakest track - that song gets me in my gut everytime I hear it. In the wrong mood that song could make you jump! sad Incredibly haunting... nod

I think the weak tracks are Loose!, Race & of course Orgasm, I never listen to those. Come is VERY underrated - it's a solid album that doesn't get its props...
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

Yes, but I have to add that for some (like me) who heard it before it became an album - it leaves to be desired. I can't even listen to the song Come, because he changed it (toned it WAY down) for the album version. sad

I still love the album though. biggrin

Peter Paphides interviewed Prince briefly circa 1995. Around the time that Come was released in the UK.

The 'studied' opinion amongst music fans and critics alike at the time was that Prince had lost his songwriting touch. Paphides put this to Prince. Prince's only answer was, "Have you heard Letitgo?"

Paphides had to concede that it was probably the best 'underground' dance track of the year.

My point is that again and again, Prince let's his music do the talking rather than himself.

I think Come is a brilliant album, and Solo is indeed very, very underrated. Remember the line:

"So low, kerb feels like a skyscraper"?

This is not only great, evocative writing, but it is the way he sings it that makes it awesome.

Come is a very dark album. Unlike any of his other albums. I have heard another version of the title track but unlike most here i like the album version better. The unreleased version has a more industrial dance feel to it while the album version is more rnb/jazz. It's an 11 minute opus with many more strange turns than the unreleased version. I beleive alot of us do prince a diservice by being so aware of what he doesn't release. So when he does release something we are to aware of some of the earlier configurationss to just enjoy the released material. I'm tired of hearing people say if he had just added this song or that song it would have been better. Folks are so greedy and spoiled. It is a real shame. No matter what he does he can never satisfy a lot of u.

Quite true..
Its simply a different type of P record..and needs to be heard 2gether..
I really like Chaos and Disorder for that different approch..

Space- incl remixes- for me is fantastic..
Even now pples are amazed at the underated trax when I blast them in my car..

I will/into the light fantastic rated trax..

Though many pple query the output of the 90s..for me the music was just as strong..less well packaged..
but the output was mindblowing..
Can't see many others risking that level of output...
Just looking 4ward to ONALive..

Underrated nod
Masterpeice disbelief

Come 2 me is an album which seems 2 lose its brilliance as the album goes on.
The album is totally him tho and he made tightly inbetween his 2 best albums of the last decade.

prince - sorry but it IS his best album of the 90's
The Gold Experience - better in a lot of ways

"...because no-one gets there alone." - "...I like the floor. It's the only thing that seems real."

Somehow I think this was the best configuration for this material. I don't think Interactive, Endorphinmachine, etc. really fit in with what's on the Come album. I think the configuration we have is cohesive and the most entrancing.

Great album, and I for one am glad he chose the 11 minute r&b/jazz version of Come over the electronic dance version. Come on, you know the album version is so much more entertaining and musically superior...

Ronny

this was the first release by Prince for which i was not
very excited.

I was out of the country and read all the bad press about how he just didn't care.

After listening to it over the years however I think it's a great album. Unlike most of his albums, this one was quite uniform throughout. It was a grey mood like the cover . "Space" is one of his best tracks ever. I wish he would have come up with a sci fi video for that ... him exploring the universe !

Love that album !

'Come' has a few cool songs but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece.I just don't think Prince's heart was really in this project. It seems like he was more excited about the 'Gold' songs.
