Why did Prince sing Crimson & Clover?

Funny that crimson means a rich deep red color inclining to purple...

I heard he covered that song last year in the spring already, so I don't believe it has anything to do with xmas and it isn't "released" yet ;p

How about - he liked the song and knew he could kill it on his guitar? It is a soulful song that probably relates to him being recently smitten with someone that he "hardly knows".

I believe the song is sentimental 2 Prince as the Blood of Christ.
Coincidentally...Red and Green are the colors that are used in a test 4 the legally colorblind, which in turn can resemble the idea of Loving the spirit of a person within their shell.
