Hi everyone.....thank you so much for listening to our WBAI PRINCE SPECIAL tonight. In reguards to the " LIVE SEGEMENTS," we are just trying to change it up a bit as i personally thank each and everyone of you for being so patient with us to attempt to try something a bit different. Even though it is only the second time that "THE GIRLS AND THE BOYS OF THE NEW BOOGIE GROOVE," have implemented something different like this....in truth it is still a hard work in progress.
Mr. SHAWN RHODES put a lot of hard work into his vocal performances tonight and gave it his all. He deserves nothing but " LOVE 2 THE 9"s." These "live segments" are only meant to be an extra enhancement to the experience of being live on the air in New York City at WBAI. There is not enough live music being done these days as we are in the GOLDEN AGE of computers. The truth in music is in the live experience. We love you all and thank you for tuning in to a terrific program. Next time we do this....I hope to have Nicky Tuzio's "ENDORPHINEMACHINE" in the house. Yes..... i am personally hoping to have a full rehearsed band in the house with keyboards, drums, basses, guitars, saxes and yes.....singers. This too will be a HARD WORK in PROGRESS, but I will assure you that we will sound as close to hearing PRINCE LIVE as possible or else I will not do it. So please stay tuned and please support " LIVE MUSIC.". Also.....there will be plenty of PRINCE'S music straight up. WBAI'S PRINCE SPECIALS will NEVER skimp on the MPLS GENIUS EVER!! I PROMISE!!! So again I thank you all for the patience, love and support for this evening and Have a Happy New Year. God Bless. We will see you very very soon. P.S.- FREDDY..... I got a lot of love for you and I thank you for all of your hard work and effort. Good luck with "NEW POWER SOUL," as I wish you nothing but all the best of everything in your musical adventures. Any questions please contact me at: tuztones@peoplepc.com Sincerely Nicky Tuzio [Edited 1/4/09 1:56am] [Edited 1/4/09 2:02am] [Edited 1/4/09 2:04am] [Edited 1/4/09 2:22am] [Edited 1/4/09 6:42am]

Good show. BAI always comes thru. Hearing "I Like It There" live and the "Lady Cab Driver" remix was cool. Although it was a little too long, Nicky's guitar tribute was cool. I wasn't crazy about the singing, but I give him credit for attempting it.
As a fan of chill-electronica, Bria's song was nice but it didn't sound like Sade to me. I'd be interested in hearing more. I would have like to have heard more old demos but maybe on the next show. Looking foward to the birthday show.

I've been a fan of those WBAI specials since the the Anthony Sloan days... The first special that i heard was the 2 hour b-side special from dec of 1985... I can't believe it's been 24 years and counting.... You guys always do a great job with the specials.... shawn rhodes did try his best even though he doesn't have the greatest voice... but i'm always a fan of his musical knowledge..... LOVE4ONEANOTHER, jay smoothe, and STEVE always do a great job as well. PEACE!!! i hope F.U.N.K. is on the mplsound album.....BOBBY BOB4theFUNK

I will never forget the historic special from june of 1987... Sign o' the times had just come out.... Rock hard in a funky place was played for the first time ver... a lot of the 1986 live shows were played on that night.. That entire debate of whose picture was really on the sign single was memorable... my brother had called up and gave his opinion... I can't believe that was 1987... was that one of your first specials STEVE that you were involved with???..... I can't wait for the next special.... it sounds like Prince's next 2 albums are back 2 being creative BOB4theFUNK

It was entertaining to say the least and I mean that as a compliment. To hear Prince music on the radio is always a pleasure. Secondly, let me say to Steve, while my comments may have touched a sensitive spot regarding the program director please know that in college I worked with my college radio station for 3 years and even taught the class to train people before they went on the air. I also have worked with DJ's on smaller local radio stations since then so the training I had in college has not gone away. We all understand change...hey it's y most of us voted for Obama, but if the change isn't working for the audience and those making the change aren't listening to the audience then is the change really a good thing? Live segments are nice and all but read carefully the complaints here and on HQ. The singer, while singing from the heart, was not exactly pleasing to the ear (and if you are upset by that complaint, I tried to be pleasant in describing the comments that made in the chat room here). Your guitar playing is nice, but it lacked a sense of direction and unfortunately when u combine that with that there was nothing new to hear for most of the 2nd segment and the last segment of Prince music, many of the people in the chat room turned off the show. As for your comment about no real live music...what is Prince doing? The Roots? Jill Scott? Ledisi? Anthony Hamilton? Alicia Keys? Duffy? Angie Stone? Rashaan Patterson? BB King? Bilal? Boys II Men? Chris Botti? Chrisette Michelle? Corine Bailey Rae? Floetry? India.Arie? Common? Michael Buble? and way many other doing? And if you meant in NY then tell me what is going on at the Bitter End? The Red Lion? Wicked Willy's? Kenny's Castaways? Fat Black Pussycat? The Blue Note? Groove and many other joints in the village where you can here the likes of Days of Wild, RSP Experiment, Loose Booty, Johnathan Fritz, Stop the Insanity, Rhaj and many other artists. Be careful making a blanket statement, lest someone points out specific facts I wish you the best of luck in whatever you are doing, but don't preach peace, love and happiness and then give subtle insults to those that are doing what you want to do. More importantly don't step on the hand of the drummer as picks up his guitar stick because you never know if he could be the one to help you find those musicians you seek or the gig you want. Much love, but more importantly reality not fantasy Vysyons OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

PLEASE.....Who is he? DARTH VADER????? I knew deep down inside that L4OA was going 2 have a good time today trying to recruit the so called "HATE STORMTROOPERS".....BLAH BLAH BLAH.... SAY WHAT YOU ALL WILL.....as I was prepared for this today.. I was waiting for when the "NEGATIVE" was going to pull up a chair in full effect. BRAVO....KEEP IT ROLLIN. This is all far from what PRINCE ever promotes and far from what the "GIRLS AND THE BOYS OF THE NEW BOOGIE GROOVE" are truly about.....but you all can continue to go forward with the negative. I have had the privilage of doing these shows 4 over 12 years and we have constantly gotting criticisms about us talking 2 long etc..what u don't think i got flack from my so called "peeps" about singing the cross last year. i appreciated their honesty and took it with humbleness..ur ego is way out of control ..not all criticism is negative it's very postitive in helping u grow as a musician and as a human..i hope that's a lesson u learn one day ..but i seriously doubt it [Edited 1/4/09 20:45pm] man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Take care and Have a Happy New Year. As I said before read everything, before you jump to conclusions and claim conspiracy. I was not negative, I was honest and realistic. If you can not deal with reality and honesty then I feel sorry for you. DENIAL IS NOT A RIVER IN EGYPT. L40A had nothing to do with anything I had to say, and if u look at the archives on HQ you will see I had similar comments regarding the last show. I addressed YOUR comments on "live music" with specific questions and statements. It's a shame you can't take constructive criticism and questions without attacking others yourself. Look back at my post to you did I call you names or address you negatively? No, I did not. Did I treat you like a "HATE STORMTROOPER"? No, I did not. You expected the "NEGATIVE"? Could that possibly be from something within your own thoughts and feelings? L40A did not ask me to say anything. I did not comment because of him or anyone else, in fact if you were to really read my post you would see that I addressed you with respect without even knowing you. You DO not know me, so don't think that you can go there. Oh, and by the way your backhanded way of being insulting and polite is sickening. Don't attack someone and then turn around and act all nicey nicey, it is insincere and condescending. [Edited 1/4/09 21:02pm] OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

L40A hates me and I think your guitar playing sucks. I have been trying to be polite, but since you seem to be a legend in your own mind and your plans are to bombard us with your horrible playing in the future, I am here to say, "Please don't!" For the first time in over a decade, I have to say that last night's WBAI special was the worst, and it was all because you played. i wouldn't say i hate u, i just think what u did was uncalled 4 in regards 2 another subject but that's not what this thread is about ..maybe down the line we can air our differences ..but 4 real..i don't hate u or anybody else ..and that includes nicky .. i can say that what went down on the air last night was NOT how the program was intially supposed 2 b and maybe the next time we can present the show we had talked about doing in the 1st place, but with prince, things change so we tried 2 put on the best show as possible due 2 time constraints. i appreciate any and all feedback on the shows cause it gives me ideas on how 2 present ideas 4 future shows 2 make it even better. thanks again 4 listening and i'm sorry that what should have been a private affair has now turned public. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
