Prince & the Strokes album covers

Anyone noticed that the Strokes' album cover for "Is This It?" (2001) is a photo of particle collisions in the Big European Bubble Chamber and that the same image is on the cover of Graffiti Bridge (1990).

I know that Prince doesn't own the image, I was just wondering if this is pure coincidence or this is a subtle nod at Prince because it's quite a peculiar image to put on an album cover.
