Sometimes Prince makes me feel nostalgic

Prince has always had a way of capturing a hint of sadness in my heart at times. Some songs really take me back to my younger days, and I find myself lost in a world of remembering things which are long gone.

What songs make you feel nostalgic? Meaning, bring you back to a certain time and place in your past where they make the memories in your mind come alive again, and they become real to you once more. Like you are there all over again.

Certain songs bring a hint of sadness to me. When I think of the word nostalgia, I think of sadness, and to a certain extent, loss. But thats not all it could be.

Songs that make me feel this way are When Doves Cry, and Little Red Corvette. Whenever I hear them I am back in time once again, remembering my youth and how I was feeling at the time when these songs were so alive to me. The opening chorus of these songs strikes a unique chord in my heart. I am taken back once again. The opening chords set the stage for the rest of my journey.

I don't think I will ever get tired of these songs. To me they make up the soundtrack of my life.

Peace, love and respect,

Butterscotch

This is such a nice thread. I never associated nostalgia with only a sad feeling, however, I can remember crying 2 the song, "It's gonna be lonely." I can remember learning about Music at the time...Motown and rock-n-roll that is considered classis today. I can remember sitting on my basement floor that was thick red and black and very comfortable 2 lay on while listening 2 music. I loved what music did 4 me in general...I've pretty much had at least the radio on ever since. Prince's albums have always been there. When I think of songs from the "1999," album or "Purple Rain," I get a happy nostalgic feeling...They were kind of those days that were still connected 2 the "Disco," Era as "Disco," was kinda leaving a period of time behind, the 70's. I was always really proud of Prince...I thought he was somethin' else, I was always secretly cheering him on before being old enough 2 go places and talk with people about music that I loved.

There have been plenty of moments where tears were there in my life and I'm sure they always will be. It's natural 2 reflect on yesterdays' yearning for a more youthful time, however, I'm getting pretty good at letting yesterday be yesterday...My today's have surprised me and I know that there is something worth treasuring in a tomorrow. cool

u know what is really good about memories, is that do get to relive those moments in a very strong way. So in a way those long ago times u speak of are very close, u just have to think of them. i too remember alot of things from earlier years when i listen to Prince or other muscians. Its so very wonderful to listen to music from earlier years and relive memories. Its as if they're right there. Its great. i would like to add with respect to ur feelings that try to remember that in a very wonderful way those memories or times still exist in a way that can add happiness to ur life when u think of them. i wish u happiness.
Merry Christmas from Regina Carman

I wasn't around when most of those classics came out but his music does make me feel things I didn't know where there but feel so familiar. It's something I can't put into words that I'm like, remembering...or something. Don't know if that makes any sense.

Maybe the the most sentimental feeling just can't be said. The kind that sends an April sweet peaceful breeze clearing your mind and leaving a smile in your heart. cool

Prince music does not make me feel nostalgic; I was never in to Prince back in the day. I do remember hearing songs on the radio.

Other artists, however, like Stevie Wonder do strike a chord -- but generally they're good times.

I'm more in awe at the presciseness of how Prince's music illustrates daily ocurrances (today) eventhough the songs were written so long ago.
