Even here, on the ORG, posts of matters like this are suppose to be accompanied by the link the news came from. So...post the link so those interested can read details. I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

MCD the promoters of the cancelled Croke park Gig are suing Prince for 1.2 million Euro. How tru is this? as on RTE 2 the irish national radio ststion If it'd true we finally know who's to blame for the biggest disappointment of the year Google is your friend... http://www.independent.ie...76226.html Independent.ie Prince sued for €1.6m after pulling out of Croke Park gig By Jason O'Brien and Tim Healy Tuesday December 16 2008 IRISH music fans didn't get to hear Prince play live this year, and he hasn't heard the end of it. The diminutive singer is being sued for €1.6m after he pulled out of a concert at Croke Park in June at short notice. Promoter MCD is bringing the case against the 'Purple Rain' singer, claiming financial loss and damage to its reputation after the gig was called off. Prince has never given a reason for the cancellation, which left 55,000 fans disappointed. Yesterday at the High Court, David O'Donohoe, a solicitor for MCD, said in an affidavit that Prince agreed in February to perform at Croke Park for a fee of $3m (e2.2m). However, it was also confirmed that there was no written contract. Half the fee was paid into the account of the singer's agent, Tony Goldring. Mr Goldring, who is based with the William Morris Agency in Beverly Hills, sent an "unambiguous email" on February 28, confirming the agreement with MCD. Cancel But the same agent informed MCD on June 6, that Prince wished to cancel. The concert was due to take place on June 16. Mr O'Donohoe said yesterday that despite MCD's best efforts to persuade the artist to play, Prince refused to do so. No reason was ever given for the cancellation, he added. In court yesterday, MCD said that although promoters have insurance against cancellation, that insurance is only valid in specific unforeseeable circumstances. MCD, which is headed by businessman Denis Desmond, claims the cost of the cancellation amounted to €1,664,945, adding that they incurred substantial promotion costs, and that all the tickets were refunded. MCD confirmed there was no written contract with Prince but their legal team argued that the email correspondence between Mr Desmond and Mr Goldring makes it "abundantly clear" that a finished contract was entered into. MCD yesterday applied for orders from the High Court that would allow them to formally serve the proceedings on Prince, and that will limit the time in which he can enter an appearance. Mr Justice Michael Peart granted the orders. Efforts to contact the singer through his agent, Mr Goldring, were unsuccessful last night. - Jason O'Brien and Tim Healy ©Independent.ie Sitemap | Contact Us | About Us | Terms & Conditions | Privacy Statement | Advertise with us | Group Websites Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I don't know what kind of promoter gives an entertainer's agen't 1.5 millions bucks on the basis of an email in lieu of a signed contract?
Brilliant move. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

It was just breaking news so no links were available at the time...and as the link above confirms the original post maybe you should just take news as it's printed. I don't make sh*t up just so I can post. Why is this place so damn negative??

The original post was a question as the OP had heard this on the radio and wanted clarification. The source he quotes is a government-owned station so its news output is reliable.I searched RTE and a few Irish news sites for web links that evening but there was nothing until the next morning when the newspapers were published.

toots said: babynoz said: Actually, that thread was started after this one. Good eye Yes, this thread was first - because the OP reported directly what he heard on the broadcast media here in Ireland before a web link was available. So I fail to see your earlier point regarding there being no link nor who eventually provided it. To the general public this is minor entertainment news that broke late in the evening and hardly a priority to the skeleton staff updating news sites in a small country during the night. But it does ask an interesting question - can we discuss news from broadcast media without a web link? Has the world changed that much? So when people round here can only agree to the right to be pedantic about Org rules, there's only on thing for it. I'm requesting that this be moved to the Site Discussion forum (yes, the forum where threads die but the animosity lives on) IMHO the original thread has run its course in M&M and should be moved.

[Edited 12/22/08 4:04am] You asked a question, NOW I get accused of being or trying to be a mod Im afraid to tell you this but I never was trying to be a mod.Its called reading the rules and understanding them. Here I will post your question in bold again, and in red for the full expllaination to your quesiton: can we discuss news from broadcast media without a web link?
Finally, when posting any media reports, new release info, "this just in" type of stuff, etc..., please link back to your source for that info. Always remember to give credit for any photos you may obtain from other sites - and remember: absolutely no hotlinking/leeching from other fan sites, personal servers etc - PERIOD! Your answer would be no Im afraid and to my understanding. I have tried being nice to explain fully as I have come to understanding rules myself over the years. I was in no way rude as you were trying to be in ur post to me accussing me of being or impersonating a mod. Which I was not.oNLY stateing forum rules and as it said in fine print when you joined and agreed to the terms of service when joining. The reason why a mod or they havent moved this thread is becuase it fits its purpose here. In the Prince M& M forum better. If a person trying to help has to go through this getting accused of being a mod or being a mod wanna be, Id rather not help one at all. Sorry for "trying" to help Even government related stuff have links [Edited 12/22/08 6:15am] Smurf theme song-seriously how many fucking "La Las" can u fit into a dam song

If that's you being nice, I'd hate to get on your bad side You're the one setting the level of debate and 'helping' by cutting and pasting site rules and giving you own interpretation on them. You have one view, I have another. Deal with it. [Edited 12/22/08 6:59am]

I don't think there's an absolute requirement of a link, especially when there's nothing to link to (e.g., something broadcast over the radio). It's a good idea, though, to provide some info about the source, such as the identity of the radio station in question. Since this thread has drifted away from the original topic, I'm going to lock it. Feel free to start a new thread in Site Discussion, though, to continue this particular dialogue. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |
