I remember hearing it live at the time and recently found a recording of it. They were on top form but it was quite brief. Haven't listened for a while but remember he played 'pope' which was unusual.

was that the one on the Simon Bates Show ? i remembr they gave away tickets 2 the lunchtime per4mance the day b4 in a competition on radio 1. i think it was in the bbc concert hall or somethin, with the full band. but P also did a pre- record evening show on radio 1, as Tora Tora, (using the Tora Tora voice), with the NPG, as a kinda version of the WNPG Radio show, lastin about 30 minutes, and playing tracks from Newpowersoul and tracks from the then unreleased Gold album.

Both the September 1993 Radio 1 broadcast live show, to which you refer, and the WNPG Radio Show from Radio 1 broadcast in 1995 mentioned above circulate on bootlegs.

I was at this show and it was incredible. I went through almost the entire queue to see if anyone didn't have a guest (as everyone could bring one guest) and one kind soul offered to bring me in with them. It was very a short set but had an unbelievable and almost indescribable energy to the performance. It was such an unusual venue too and all the house lights were on, so it was almost as close to real life as a Prince show could get in my experience. America was amazing, as was Pope (faster than normal). The version of Peach was also one of the best I've ever heard, and I'm sure he almost screamed out the verses as opposed to the lower vocal on record. I had this show on tape but have since lost it. I'd love to hear this again someday.

Yes WNPG, I remember this, used to have it on cassette tape, as I taped it off the radio. Lost it years ago, really annoyed at that! I am Princes love child!

I wasn't lucky enough to win a ticket but as I was in London that day for the concert in the evening I decided to try my luck at getting in. I recall walking up to Broadcasting House just as Prince's limo arrived and pulled up beside me. He got out and I smiled, he smiled back but then rushed into the building as a small crowd started to rush towards him. So anyway I joined the queue hoping to get lucky. I got through to reception where DJ Gary Davies was looking at us all with a bemused look on his face. The security guys then led us towards the sound stage in a room on the right, I got through the door into a very small room with a few rows of seats when a security guy asked to see my ticket. I was busted but he was ok about it,just smiled as I left the building. I wasn't too upset though, I tried my best and ALMOST made it! [Edited 12/14/08 21:46pm] [Edited 12/14/08 21:47pm]

My copy is incomplete it's on a variety of boots from the act 2 tour ..check out the databank man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The was a great little performance which was representative of the main shows on the Act II tour.
I also recall that Capital Radio broadcast several tracks from the Sheffield Concert including Lets Go Crazy, The Cross & Purple Rain. "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."
