This may be difficult to say, but I'll try.
This voyeuristic nature that Prince has, seem to be with a vision of himself with a woman that he feels guilty about teasing. These two people have finally come together with passions that are of jealousy and abandonment that are won over by sexual desire...although there is an emotional struggle. I was listening to this song today and really like it...
He picks up this story like a voyeur... peeping from a closet? Maybe he was hiding there and sees the whole thing. He wants to save her but he can't. He tells the story and instead of completing it he want the listener to finish it up in a manner that suits the ending.
