I know it's been discussed several times on here, but will we EVER get to see the PR outtakes? The trailer for the film is filled with scenes not even in the movie, and the script has alot of scenes not actually in the film, so I know there are many outtakes-deleted scenes out there. I'd also love to see some behind-the-scenes stills from the movie.

Isn´t it sad that a lot of movies, even really old stuff from the 1950s, get released with additional footage, newly added scenes or bonus material on DVD, yet there don´t seem to be any outtakes left from a movie that was shot in 1984.

You´re right about the scenes in the original script but the thing is that most of them weren´t even shot for the movie that we know. Maybe you´ve read the old version, which is a bit more brutal and dark. There are some scenes that were shot and you can see them in the trailer ( like Prince hitting Jellybean Johnson, or Prince and Apollonia in the barn ) but I doubt that there are that many other scenes. Other than those scenes, I haven´t heard of any outtakes and I doubt that Warner Bros. still has the old film material. However,there´s always the possibility that there are still some old film reels on some shelves somewhere.

I would like the see the film the way it was described in the original script. I think it would have been awesome, Prince should have gone there--with that darkness and heaviness. I'd like to have seen it.

But I'm content with the film we have now.

talk about dark, there is that scene in the original script when in the basement after his father says " i would die for you." and leaves, he has a conversation with his mom where she looks at him and gets "lusty" or something. she puts her earing on him and then does the same hand fluttery thing that he did to apples and then its just creepsville usa. well, i don't know if they actually shot it, but she is wearing her bangle earing and when they cut to the next scene when he wakes up, he's wearing it...

I answered a question like this one months ago. I saw an outtake of the scene after Prince snatched up Appolonia and they stopped at in the street by the bridge. If I remember correctly, Appolonia gave this long speech about him being a punk in some way like his dad....I forgot. Anyway, yeah their out there somewhere. I just want to see the scene that is in the Doves Cry video. I thought I saw Prince and his dad fighting in the dance studio....maybe not.

I always dream that I'm in watching the outtakes but somehow, I'm actually in them....whatever.

Prince doesn't like us seeing videos from today, what makes you think he'd release something from 1984?

If you look hard enough on the internet you can find anything or somebody that will have it, nobody's paying Prince any attention with his crap.

I read somewhere that portions of Prince and Apple's love scene were cut to avoid having an X-rating.

I can just imagine what it would have been like. I'd probably be even more into his little ass if something like that had been let loose on film! LOL.

Not only way more sex, but it looks closer to the actual script. Apples running down a dark alley, she and the Kid falling onto his bed, the barn scene, the Kid/Jellybean fight, Morris and Apples running in The Kid's parents' yard, Apples standing on a streetcorner, etc.

Do you know if studios kept deleted scenes then like they do now? I mean, there were no DVD's until a few years ago...so no reason to keep unused stuff.

IMO, it's possible that the excised scenes from PR are on a film reel somewhere within the Warner’s facility or maybe a warehouse somewhere overseas. It’s possible that Al Magnoli, editor and director, has the footage. Maybe Warner’s has no clue that these scenes are in such high demand so they never bothered to dig them up for the 20th anniversary. Well, we are on the doorstop of the 25th anniversary.

Question, has any Prince fan publication ever tried to get a hold of Al Magnoli for an interview?

Prince has nothing to do with it. The director states on the DVD that the footage was destroyed. In addtion, the film was sold to WB. So if footage exsist WB owns it.
