At the time the song was written, Prince had probably experienced beautiful women that didn't stop searching for another man, even after the two had met.

Being Beautiful doesn't ever imply that U will love everyone deeply.
Everyone is attracted to attractive people...True Love 4 2, is only in one place.

Something I'd often considered... what is this song about?

Who are "The Beautiful Ones?"

My interpretation is that the beautiful ones are the girls he's previously dated, all of which are beautiful, but end up hurting him. One time, I considered that on the outside, they are beautiful, but inside, they are ugly and that's why they've caused him pain.

He says this particular girl was hard to find because she's beautiful inside and out and he thinks this girl is THE ONE. He also wants to show that he's good enough for her and he's the one she should be with, not "the other guy."

Rumor has it that this song was written for Wendy's sister, Susannah wink

At the time Purple Rain was being filmed Susannah was dating another man. Prince was so infatuated by her, that he wrote the song about her, basically saying "Do U want him or do U want me, cuz I want U"! And the rest is history.

Im talking about the real story. Obviously in the movie thats how the song is portrayed.
But i agree with yall. The women Prince used too (or still goes for) are beautiful making them go for men who are necessarily ''beautiful'' but possibly only skin deep which is why he probably says 'the beautiful ones you always seem to lose'
