which album is better, The Truth or One Nite Alone?

I wonder what many of you people think since the truth is an acoustic album and one nite alone being a piano album. Personally I dug the truth because it's exiting and something you can groove to. My fave track is Welcome 2 the dawn. Is there a regular version to that because it says acoustic version. I just thought I'd ask that question as well.

I've never really listened to The Truth and been completely astounded by it; I guess I was expecting something more from it at the time. I do think it is a better album than One Nite Alone although I tend to listen the latter much more. Interstingly, I didn't expect much from One Nite Alone (probably because of the earlier disappointment of The Truth) but it far exceeded my expectations.

No competition for me, The Truth is a far superior album and what Prince should have been trying to achieve for the last ten years. It it totally original, excellently produced and gets away from all the Mothership funk he had spent to long producing. I find ONA a bit self-indulgent.

i think The Truth is Prince's best work in years...ONA is really good, but it just doesn't shake the feel of a demo record, at least to me...i mean, it's still far better than most of the radio playlists.

In a way, a like both albums equally. I think they're both great. And as a pianist, I tend to listen to ONA more.

But which is better? I would probably say The Truth. Quite simply because there is more variety. There are actually several uptempo tracks on The Truth. Just because it's acoustic doesn't mean it has to be completely in ballad form.

On the other hand, that's what I love about ONA. It flows so well, and is very consistent. One complete body of work dwelling in a particular mood and sound.

In the end, I really do like both equally- but the edge might go to The Truth because of one reason, the weak arpeggio exercise that is referred to as a song known as "Arboretum."

I think The Truth ranks right up there with Lovesexy as arguably one of his BEST albums. I'm actually still getting used 2 One Nite Alone because I just got it a few weeks ago thanx 2 the speedy delivery of NPGMC disbelief
Slowly but surely I'm loving One Nite Alone, but The Truth remains a classic 2 me.

"The Truth" is my favourite - a totally original piece of work that came out of the blue. ONA was more expected and as such hasn't really blown me away. Having said that, Avalanche is the best song over the 2 albums and (as I have said before) we will see over time when ONA has time to grow and be fully appreciated.

It was fantastic to hear "Don't Play Me" on Oct 5th live and I have been listening to "The Truth" again to capture the vibe of the acoustic set. Not sure I would have been listening to ONA if Prince had chosen to do a piano set.

Bring on ONA Live!!!

I like One Night Alone Better because it is all Piano and very Melodic. It's Beautiful and Romantic.

One Nite Alone quite comfortably. The Truth lacks the depth and subtlety of arrangement that characterises One Nite Alone, and I don't think it really conveys the the same depth of emotion that one would expect from an intimate recording- the production is too hard and inflexible and full of annoying technical flourishes. The melodies on The Truth can also be sickly and are overburdened by his layered harmonies (in most cases the best feature of Prince's work). "Avalanche" by itself is worth more than The Truth. One Nite Alone seems in many ways rushed and too loose, but this is exactly what is missing, I think, from The Truth, which is overproduced and altogether too clean.

The Truth is all Jumpy and Jangly and ONA alone is all Quiet and Serene. I am digging on the Quietness that is ONA . It is like the Quiet Storm on WBLS It is more Relaxed and Comfortable. Prince get's ya in the Mood with it he makes ya Peaceful.

Ive always found it difficult to get into the Truth as an album, but I think a selection of the songs off it are outstanding. The Truth, Don't Play Me, Circle Of Amour, Animal Kingdom, Other Side Of The Pillow, Welcome to the dawn. Are all excellent songs, perfectly fitting for the acoustic guitar vibe.

But by far the outstanding song is comeback. 2 minutes of brilliance, i would love to hear him play this live. I thought some of the songs were a little weak, and it could have done with a little more work, but on the whole it ranks as a great album

ONA definitely has the weaker songs, but it has a wonderful vibe to it making it much easier to listen to as an album. I love hearing prince alone at the piano, and a case of u is by far the best cover he's done so far.

I find it hard to consider both of these proper albums, they both seem like side avenues from his main work. Im sure if he'd released The Truth it would've got him really good reviews, instead he released New Power Soul, not one of his better ideas.

The Truth has to be my pick. The first couple times I listened to it, I wasn't impressed, but then I was playing it in the background while doing other things. Once I really sat down and paid attention, it owned me. I've played it constantly since that time.

ONA has not yet had that same "grab" factor. I admit that I haven't paid it the same attention as The Truth, but each time I've tried, I haven't been able to get into it. Based on the comments some of you have made, though, I'm going to go get it and take a close listen right now!
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

One Night Alone for me. I've never liked The Truth. Apart from the title track and Don't Play Me the songs make me cringe. Some of the lyrics are really bad !

ONA. For some reason i didn't connect as much with the Truth album. A few songs, but not with the same sweetness of ONA.

Defenitely The Truth, and indeed, especially the song Comeback, always put this on compilation cd's for nonprince fans to let them know that it doen't always have to be P.R.
And it is even better with headphones on.

Well, this extremely easy.

The Truth.

Which is funny. When I first heard the cd I couldn't stand it. I relistended to it two years and swear ranks up there with Lovesexy (all time favorite) and Prince.

ONA...

I've analyzed, listened, read the lyrics multiple times and can find nothing worth while about this cd. Well, with the exception of Here on Earth. The cd is just so...so...throw away.

Here On Earth??!! Have you listened to Avalanche yet? A Case of U? The album is obviously not as "tight" as Prince usually is. But I think this looseness and flow was exactly the medicine he needed after years of clean, unadventurous, somewhat uninspired work (The Gold Experience, Rave, NPS). He's been unshackled and I can see the genius re-entering the building.
