Reflecting on Prince's Periods pt 1

Debut Period - Prince debuts to the world some funk, disco and rock and a falsetto voice
For You
Prince

Dirty Mind Period - Prince starts to get a little experimental and comes out with a record that would be the start of a defining sound. He also is starting to assemble what would become the Revolution.

Purple Period - Dropping the falsetto for the first time, Prince dons a purple jacket and hones in on the New Wave Funk that would carry him through Purple Rain. The Revolution also gets it's start.
Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain

Dream Factory Period - Prince goes classical, jazzy & muses with the piano. His influence being around Wendy and Lisa starts to emerge and Prince is at the top of his creative game and is very prolific during this period...almost too much so. Creating music that has no real definition and is very experimental. Even though they were instrumental during this period is taking Prince on a musical journey, Prince decides he is better as a solo artist and disbands the Revolution during a pancake breakfast.
ATWIAD, Parade, (Dream Factory, Crystal Ball, Camille) SOTT

Gemini Period - Confused & Lost about the creative direction Prince is to go in, he creates a juxtaposition of albums that some say are the best of his carreer. Warner Bros, at the same time are very worried about the output Prince is giving them saying it's too experimental and that it's not commercially sound. Prince first is slated to put out the Black Album, an album that would not bear his name (freaking out WB even more) but was a tip back to the raw funk he used to make. Then in a change of thought or a night perhaps spent on ecstacy, Prince decides to scrap the album that was already at press and wants Lovesexy to come out instead. An album which depicts Prince in the nude and bears no single worthy material replaces TBA, which then becomes one of the most sought out bootlegs in history. Lovesexy doesn't do that well, and the tour ends up losing money with it's lavish stage and theatrics. Prince needs a hit. Na Na Na Na Na...Batman comes out and becomes a huge seller. Convinced he is still on top of his game, Prince wants to do a sequel to Purple Rain called Graffitti Bridge. Seeing the sales of Batman, WB cavets to Prince and gives him his movie, which is a disaster, commercially and artistically.
Black Album, Lovesexy, Batman, Grafitti Bridge

End of an era period - The strain between WB and Prince hits new highs as Grafitti Bridge bombs. Again Prince needs a hit to show he's still got it. Enter Diamond, Pearl and Kristie. Diamonds and Pearls proves yet once again Prince knows how to make a hit, even if that means pandering to the radio and creating bland songs like Cream. After his "last" album, Prince changes his name to a symbol (same name as the last album) and decides to take steps to move out of the WB fold.

Prince has periods?! omfg
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I know dude wears makeup and heels but I think it's a big assumption to think he menstruates.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

^^^^ Well, I guess since I'm on the subject of periods, here's the only joke I know right now:

Question: What did one tampon say to the other tampon?

Answer: Nothing! They were both stuck up cunts!

Yeah, I'd agree with those. Maybe I'd tag DM into a trio of the first albums, kind of like a cocoon to a butterfly phase.

Pt.2 is gonna be ugly. lol

I some what agree. I have always thought about it all in this way, about 6 phases.
.

1. Beginings: For You & Prince. Prince mostly on his own.

2. The Revolution: DM, Contoversy, 1999, Purple Rain, ATWIAD, Parade, Dream Factory material. - When Bobby Z. and Lisa were fired I considered the Revolution over.

3. Graffiti Bridge: SOTT to GB. Prince trying solo again, lots of Shiela E. influence., heading toward the NPG vision. Camille + Lovesexy = Graffiti Bridge. Lots of Light and Dark music, maybe Gemini, two halves, finding balance spiritualy time.

4. prince period: Some GB to Emancipation - Mostly the Mayte years I guess.

5. The Truth period: The Truth to High material. Lots of personal changes for Prince, family stuff, etc.

6. Rainbow Children: from TRC to now. Prince becoming JW the common thread.

Why y'all keep hating on this look for Prince, I really rather like that hairdo. It's a step up from that molded mes she's been doing lately.

I swear, if it wasn't for those gorgeous eyes and that bouncy booty...

What was I talking about? eek
I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me.
Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots.
Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

I would call these the best Prince periods - Paisley Park period 85-89, Come/Gold Period 94-96, Rave/NPGMC period 99-02. Since NEWS, he hasn't really had anything new to say, I think. And if it's true that he's not interested in making new music anymore, as the one report posted on the org says, then I think we may really have seen his farewell.
