Why do U think that "Cinnamon Girl," was banned?

I remember the day that the video was released and the following day watching CNN talk about the song.

I don't remember their interpretation, and I wonder if it was the video more than it was the lyrics themselves.

The song is basically about a girl that wants the war between people to stop. I wonder if it was the quatrain...

Because it had references to the 911 incident, but it was not banned everywhere.

I thought it was controversial (not banned) because she set off a bomb in an airport or something

Funny it was never banned here in Australia, infact I saw it on one of our music channels not long ago. Then again Madonna's clip for justify my love was never banned here either but it was in the USA

At the very end of the video, the girl is sitting in the airport. The video is really about her imagining just what she's been "accused" of by others, due to the blanket reaction the 911 actions caused (which seems to have been pretty much the intention).

The song and video are both a message to others that not all of certain faiths are terrorists or such like, and a message to those that are being thought of in that way that they don't have to live up to those expectations all of a sudden. It seems many didn't quite get this, hence the banning in certain places (don't think it was banned over here in the UK, but there's such a lack of Prince music played over here you wouldn't be able to tell either way).

I didn't know it was banned. I just assumed it never got any airplay because it wasn't shit hop.

I really liked it when it was released and I still like it, it is one of the few newer songs that I like from beginning to end. Very interesting video ( among his best, which is not that difficult considering some of his cheesy videos), great social commentary in the lyrics, nice guitar, interesting way of singing.

If this were an outtake or released earlier, or if it had different lyrics ( you know, more PATRIOTIC ) then people would go nuts over it.
It´s a great song, really.Right up there with one of his best social commentary songs, like Money Don´t Matter 2nite, Sign o the Times, Annie Christian, etc.etc.

Exactly where was this banned?
